AS a ULTRA HYPER WaroftheWorlds fan, I shall now elaborate on the night of 27th January 2007-The night when War of the Worlds is shown here in Malaysia!!! Call me a freak, nut or anything, I don't care... Yay, excuse the following rantings.... Before the film, I watched another Sci-Fi film, Serenity...wow....cool. The ppl who made the CGI for Battlestar Galactica made the CGI for the film. Very impressive. Okay, now on to the film. First, the bare essentials... The film starts... Can't stand....suspense...... Look, paramecieum... The Tripod Comes TO REAL LIFE!!!!!! The first Tripod Emerges.... A toast to War Of The Worlds.... Best Night....Ever... It was so cool, I caught the Encore the next day from 1.00 to 3.00 Best Movie...Ever.... -So say we all

Yeah Im pretty much a Wotw nut,(tried to make my own FanComic but stopped after losing my preciousl watercolor pencils, work can still b found forums.eveofthewar.com/showthread.php?t=5492) but I agree the 1938 was quite realistic. The 1953 movie was not bad either, except some scenes when you can see strings, but yes, a marvel of SFX tech at the time....

I never came across any other radio broadcast except the original version by Orson Welles, so yes that's the one.
After all the panic he created, he ended the broadcast by saying: "So goodbye everybody, and remember please for the next day or so the terrible lesson you learned tonight. That grinning, glowing, globular invader of your living room is an inhabitant of the pumpkin patch, and if your doorbell rings and nobody's there, that was no Martian, it's Halloween." - Live broadcast, CBS Radio Network, 30 October 1939.
The lesson that we can learn here is how media can manipulate human thinking in a blink of an eye, that's what CNN done to intensify hatred during Gulf War & again on Sept 11.

Axually....
I've seen the 50's version...
in a way, it was a lot more suspensful than Mr. Scientology's version. Also, you didnt get to see the Martian except for a fleeting glimpse, and of course that snake probe. I find that not seeing the creature gives it that 'unknown' factor, and we all fear the unknown. Most of us anyway.
Also, Tom Cruise is short. Standing on his wallet, he couldnt see eye to eye with tim robbins, let alone clobber him with a spade.

I have to agree with oberstabsfeldwebel. It's hard to swallow but Mr. Scientology's version lacks of many things (not only suspens or fear).
fongsaunder, did you check under the flip if you've won a Satria Neo? Hahahaha...

Hehehe... yokoyoko, Coke, peanuts, PVC tube and super glue in one table... reminds me very much of MY table... I thinks that's not a PVC tube, but the handle of a paint roller. I think there's also a remote behind the coke. But what's that between the remote and the super glue??
They say you can tell a lot about a person by looking at the things around him, so what's your deduction Kal? ;D
Just found the 'rant' I posted over at startrel.com.my forum right after I watched this movie.
Sorry if my opinion offends anyone. You may choose not to click on the following link: War of the Worlds - A Review
