Hi all... just registered myself. i dont have any tags, signatures or pictures yet to add to my posts. This is merely an introduction to announce that living historians (i.e. people who like to play dress-up with real world costumes, in my case being military uniforms) are invading your little sanctuary. We've also invaded the outpost in cineleisure and made spectacles of ourselves during the coscon and opening of shioktoys. You may know me as Andrew; my partner in crime is Font. Pictures etc to come later! Also I've got a source for leather boots from the former East Germany as I kesian seeing you guys running around in gardening/wet market boots. Salute! Andrew

How very TRUE, hopefully in time to come we will see a transition from the Pua Chu Kiang Black Rubber Boots to some impressive East German Leather Riding or Marching Boots.
P.S. your CosCom 2006 pics can be seen HERE - CosCom (PART2)

Hello there! Nice to see you here! Hmm... Is by any chance these leather boots are the one's the Imperial Officers wear?

The Imperial officer boots look to me, on screen at least, closer to the soviet version. But, since most fascist/commie regimes shod their soldiers with boots, its hard to say. However, I've been told that US costumers use East German boots for their star wars costumes as they're relatively inexpensive, sturdy and quite snappy looking.

Herr oberstabsfeldwebel,
My friends in the 501st Singapore Outpost (soon to be Garrison) uses East German marching boots for their Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot costumes. One of them even used it for his Imperial Officer, he goes by the forum ID "renzaijh"
The snappy looking Riding Boots or "Jack Boots" worn by the East German Offiers with their Riding Breeches will be the more fitting match.
When your East German boots pictures are ready to be posted here, please start a New Thread under the "501st : NON-Armored Imperial and Sith Costumes & Props" of the 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNE OUTPOST section of the forums.
Danke.

Welcome, Andrew! Nice to see costumes based on real life militaria for a change. I've got one too (which I have never worn in public!) albeit contemporary rather than historical... a US Delta operative gear from OPeration Restore Hope, circa 1993 Mogadishu. But if there's one historical uniform I'd love to own it would be a Schutzstaffel Sturmbannführer uniform with an accompanying SS ceremonial dagger! Although I fear, getting something like that would be close to impossible?

Ooooh, the irony. My partner in crime and dressing up as soldier, Font, had an SS uniform of that exact rank last year. Unfortunately for you, he sold it. It was not a genuine 3rd Reich issue, though, but rather a converted East German Army uniform (they bear a striking resemblance to ww2 uniforms).
Now, what most people dont understand is that real Nazi gear is expensive. When I say expensive, I mean expensive with a capital M-A-H-A-L, baby. A genuine SS officer uniform in good condition can run around...
*drumroll*
easily 2,000 - 3,000....
USD!!!
*without* the parade dagger! (but with at least 1 or 2 medals if you're lucky)
Lets put it this way....a filthy, moth eaten, tattered flak gunner's uniform (Luftwaffe blue with red collar patches for non-flight crews) can sell for EUR90 on ebay, with a starting bid of EUR1.
If you're interested in obtaining a repro set which matches the original in every way, I can help you out, but any further information should probably be taken to the marketplace forum. I will post pics of the uniform on a later date.
Cheerio!
