Welcome, armyuniform, to this blessed abode. I, too, am new here... and despite the Elven nature of my name, I am also a fan of military paraphernalia (albeit with a small and rather recent collection). My most prized, I'd say, is a US Army standard issue combat helmet, complete with camouflage cover and strap - the type issued before the advent of the kevlar helmet... Here's some pics of what I've got: 1] The US Army helmet 2] Assorted US Armed Forces insignia and badges

Should I say this is a Vietnam War era US M1 Steel Helmet, based on what I can see from the pic you've posted?

Thank you, milord! I'd say it's an M1, but of later make. The design may be the same as the Vietnam era, but it's not that old... I got this one online from a military surplus store. It's actually made from 2 layers, the outside one is steel, and the inner seems to be made from some kinda fibreglass material. If I'm not mistaken, they've been using this model until only recently, and it's still deployed to reserve troops...

Yep from your description, it is confirmed that it is the US Army's beloved M1 Hadfield Steel Helmet that was first introduced in 1941 to replace the M1917 British pattern "Pie Plate" Helmet shown here :
FYI I'm a World War II and U.S. Army Uniform (WWI to Vietnam War era) Scholar & Historian of sorts when I'm off-STAR WARS.
Actually the US Army PHASED OUT the M1 Steel Helmet and replaced it with the Kevlar "Fritz" Helmet back with effect from 1985 onwards. I doubt that it is still used by the US National Guards or reserve troops as you call them.

Hi Earendil, nice helmet, from the picture it is a M1 helmet from the 70-80 judging by the cover. I'm more into german stuff, be it WW2 till now but I also collect uniform from many countries. I used to have a M1 myself but i exchange it with another collector. Maybe one day we can meet and we can show both our collection

Also be very careful of admiting you have Malaysian army stuff because it can get you in trouble with the M.P's or Special Branch. The other are ok.

A collector of US Army stuff eh? I've got a neat WW2 Ike jacket n pants set dated 1946, rank of staff sgt. So its just after the war, but he's got a pacific campaign ribbon with battlestar. I'll get a picture of it up on here sometime, for a bit of bragging... The uniform is part of my permanent collection, why do you ask?
