All the materials are here except the EL wire and driver plus the Polycarbonate tube.
I could use the Luxeon LED and Acrylic tube though but its just not the same.
Sigh***

I use aluminum, brass, copper, PVC, wood, plastic, and anything else I can find around me.
If you want to make a screen accurate saber then maybe part or all of it need to be custom machined.
All the sabers I've made so far are sturdy enough to fight with by simply inserting a wooden dowel into it.
You could've gotten a much better idea if you had joined us for the presentaton at MPH on May 22nd.
Hopefully the organisers will arrange for another presentation during the next gathering sometime in June or July. Look out for it.

Well, we've finally started on our lightsabers!! I'm making mine with a simple PVC pipe, and a split-tubing for the grip.. Its a very simple design, but its my first one so I'm just sticking to the basics for now.. We will post pics of our progress very soon, for you guys and also for the benefit of other newbies like sithlorddarthvader...

SithLordDarthVader,
You can also try materials like Deco (looks like chrome copper), PVC pipe, exhaust pipe (harden stainless steel), polycarbonate pipe, polyethylene pipe, polypropylene pipe, faucet, thumbscrews, rivets, spray paint and.....
A pillow to sleep on after all the hard work!

Oh I forgot to add: Goto Jalan Pasar and buy a mini drill set, a hot air gun, an electric drill, a drill press, a hacksaw, a rivet gun, some rivets, all sorts of different screws, and a well-stocked toolbox, if you don't already have any of these items...
And don't forget a BIG jar of elbow grease ;D

With regards to tools:
If you drill a hole in PVC tubing of the correct size, the thing will actually hold screws well enough that you won't need to use bolts on the inside. And if you manage to find screws with unique heads like Torx or Allen screws, then not only will they be functional, but look pretty cool too!
