I am very new to this. Is there a list of parts to buy? I have been to a few sites but nothing to say this is what you need and how many of this and this ect....and this is how you build it. Also I have never seen any homemade sabers. So are there pics available? also what do you make the blades out of? All help is appriciated. They're usually sold as kits. You can buy most of the parts, ready to assemble from www.graflexshop.com, but they're not cheap. The one Dougles is making is a fraction the price of what you'd pay if you were to buy from www.graflexshop.com, that's why we're all eagerly waiting for him to complete his prototype. ;D
I've collected and built quite a few lightsaber hilts, most of which can be installed with the necessary electronics to turn it into an EL saber. To have a look click on 'MY LIGHTSABER COLLECTION' below...

Ahh,h, medic. So you wanna build a saber blade.
Well, it all depends on what kind of blade you want. To show off only, to place on a table as decoration, to go for light dueling, heavy dueling, etc....
I would prefer to use industrial polycarbonate tubing as it has the tensile strenght of metal for real heavy dueling. In the tube you can use polypropylene tubes as bushings to hold on a polyethylene tube that will be use for diffusing the light.
I will post a pic here once the construction is complete. All of the construction is ready except for the polycarbonate tube. As mentioned, I may just use acrylic as a temporary measure.

POl, medic questions prompted me to ask you this. Did you put up any website to show the parts you use to construct your sabers?
If not, want to combine effort? I put in mine and you put in yours.

Yipes! They sure are nice tho. I did look at the pictures but it did not help me. I need a list of what I need, what it is how many and how to place it together. The hilt is awsome, plus I would love to make it a El saber as those rock. Can most of this be found at local hardware stores then?

I need to clarify that most of my lightsabers are not made by me, and are not made of hardware parts. The majority of them are vintage flashguns, which was what's use to make the original lightsabers used in the Original trilogy movies.
As for the few hardware saber in my collection pics, the parts can not be easily found in hardware stores because I use whatever I find. Sometimes I pick up things on the street if I find it interesting and put it into a big box where I keep my 'potential saber parts', and may not use it till months or years later when I'm building a saber and that particular part happen to look good on it. Most of the time I don’t even know what is that part, or where to get more if I want to.
I did make several hardware sabers recently for the EP3 ROTS screening apprearances using off-the-shelf hardware items. I made these sabers for those members who do not have their own sabers, and I gave them away without taking any photographs.
I could make another set of those hardware sabers again, but it'll take some time...

Yes!!!! Finally the polycarbonate tube is here!
Be sure to catch it in action this 1st July!
BTW, medic, I made all the designs of the lightsaber myself.
It will be cheaper than getting a flashgun if you are low on budget.

Hi Douglas: I understand that the polycarbonate has to be "unspooled" first. How is that done? Do you boil the whole thing in a pot or something?
Moderators: I had some free time over the weekend, so I decided to write a short guide on building lightsabers locally. I don't have a website, so should I just post it directly to this thread?
Cheers

Unspooling?
I assumed that you mean the Polycarbonate comes in a roll.
Well, mine was delivered as a straight tube as a rolled polycarbonate tube would be difficult to almost impossible to be straighten.
Boiling would not effect much as it can withstand temperatures above boiling point.

Wow! So how long a solid tube did you have shipped in?
What diameter did you buy? Are you using a polyethylene diffuser? Or something else?
Are you debuting the blade at this weekend's Star Light cinema screening?
Cheers!
