Hi,
Thought I'd share with you guys pics of my saber hilts collection. These are all fanmade, not one of them an MR (MRs are overpriced inaccurate replicas! :, including a couple made by our Saber Extraordinaire, Master Plo. So without further ado, here they are:
Luke Skywalker ANH
This was converted from a vintage Graflex flashgun (I posted the tutorial on MSF before) with a Blast-tech kit which consists of the rubber grips, a D-ring holder, a strip of chrome tape and a replica Exactra 19 calculator bubble.
Obi-wan ANH - AFBB version
This is an idealized version of this saber, i.e. this is how it would have looked when Obi-wan first assembled it. This is assembled from earlier parts made by Romans Empire, before the recent discoveries about the screen used prop.
Obi-wan ANH - Weathered
This is my pride and joy and the Holy grail of saber collecting, the weathered saber used by Obi-wan in ANH. From left to right, it consists of a replica Armitage Shanks sink knob (made by Romans), a replica ANM2 machine gun booster (Romans), a vintage Graflex clamp, weathered with reflective tape, vintage Motorola transistors, vintage Exactra 19 bubbles, a stainless steel #3 MK1 grenade replica with brass windvane (made by Chen) and a Rolls-Royce Derwent engine balance pipe replica (made by Gavidoc). Truly a thing of beauty.
Luke Skywalker ESB - Wampa Cave version
This was converted from a Parks Graflex replica with a Blast-tech kit. It differs from the ANH above due to the presence of two red buttons instead of one red button and a glass eye in the ANH, and the fact that the grips are screwed on instead of epoxied. This saber gets its name from the version of the prop that appeared in the Wampa cave sequence (the one sticking in the snow).
Luke Skywalker ESB - Ranch version
This was converted from a a vintage Graflex flashgun with a Blast-tech kit. It looks the same as the Wampa cave version, except for the textured tape reflective covering the word "GRAFLEX" on the clamp. Also, the D-ring holder is placed backwards. This is believed to be the primary saber prop used for ESB. A screen used version of this prop still remains today at the Lucasfilm ranch, hence the name.
Darth Vader ESB
This is a Larbel MPP replica fitted with Blast-tech grips. An MPP was used for both ANH and ESB but in ESB, the red and white/black wires were added and the grips go all the way to the center clamp.
Luke Skywalker ROTJ - Hero version
This machined beauty is made by Darth Stefano, a 501st Italian garrison member. It originally came with brass colored neck and control box lining, so I repainted them copper to be more accurate. The tri-ring was also made by yours truly. This is the hero prop but it appears only once (that I recall) in the movie, i.e. where Vader was inspecting Luke's new saber on Endor.
Luke Skywalker ROTJ - V2
This was made from a polished V2 blank which in turn was made by Saberfreak (aka Master Plo). It came with the cone knob and filister screw so I added the Graflex clamp and the bus card. I then weathered it based on pics of the screen used prop. This is the version of the saber most used in ROTJ, particularly during the Jabba sailbarge scene, the Luke against the speeder bike scene and the Emperor's throne room.
Luke Skywalker ROTJ - Shared stunt version
Same as the V2, this was also made from a polished stunt blank made by Saberfreak. I added the Graflex clamp and bus card and painted in with black and copper paints based on pics of the screen used prop. This version of the saber is basically a stunt version (used for fight scenes with a rotoscoping blade attached to it) used by Obi-wan in ANH and reused by Luke in ROTJ.
Darth Vader ROTJ
The word was that Vader's MPP sabers from ESB went missing (presumably stolen) when production on ROTJ began, so instead of looking for more MPPs, the prop guys took an existing Luke ESB saber and converted it to make it darker. So this saber started off as a Graflex. My version of the prop is also made from a vintage Graflex flash but the metal conversion parts were made by Obi1kenny (Elvis Trooper) with Blast-tech grips. Not a lot of people like this saber, but it is truly a work of art.
As you can see, I'm only into Original Trilogy sabers... that's because I'm of the view that the newer sabers in the Prequel Trilogy (which are mostly machined and not converted real life items) look nowhere near as good as the OT ones.
Anyway, hope you guys like!
