Breaking news on the two injured fans who got burnt while acting out a fan film...
Excerp from another fan forum:
"I read a followup story that one of them was injured so badly that the hospital had to seal them in a black suit with its own self contained breathing system. Their head had to protected by a black, metal samuri style helmet and their eyes had to be protected with black lenses in the mask with slots for sound to be heard from their mouth. But, their voice was effected also so it had to be amplified and it makes it sound a lot deeper than usual, kinda like James Earl Jones."

Guys, how about a Malaysian style fanfilm? E.g. We get a sandtrooper making rounds at Mos Eisley and comes across a couple a guys selling vcd/dvd haram. Or a few Jedis having teh tarik at a stall while discussing the Clone Wars. Or Vader in a kapchai stopped by a trooper (who's a bit d'uh) for speeding. Something hilarious and truly Malaysian. Just a thought.

Ok here's my bit. I'm all for the comedy relief fan movie, cos its a lot more fun to make, but also a lot harder to make, because you'll be laughing you head off and couldn't even stand straight, let alone put on a straight face and act!
Before we even start on a storyboard we need to decide one thing. To Be Or Not To Be! Eeerrr...I mean to make a serious fan film or a comical one. Only when this has been decided can the storybosrd take shape.
If I have my way I'd make 2 fan films. One serious and one comical, but with the EXACT storyline, or at least parts of the serious one has a comedic alternative.
Example: In the serious version, there's a fight scene involving many characters. In the comedic version, the same fight scene becomes a dance scene which involves the exact same characters. We can shoot only the dance scene and then joint it with the rest of the serious version...
Another example can have a serious tacticle discussion scene in the serious version and then replace it with a casual discussion at the mamak stall in the comedic version, with the exact same characters, and even the exact same dialogue, with local accents and slang thrown in.
Complicated but LOADS of fun to make and watch!

I always find that the comical fan films always garner more interest and popularity compared to the serious ones.

I always find that the comical fan films always garner more interest and popularity compared to the serious ones. Because its more fun to watch, and because people don't pick all the details to pieces, they tend to tell their friends about it, so more people find out about it...All they remember is how funny it was and not how many inconsistancies or mistakes they can spot...
Serious fan films will ALWAYS be compared to the movies, whether people realise it or not, and very very seldom are serious fan films good enough to satisfy enough people for it to be mentioned...

I believe that SaberMaster has hit the nail right on the head here. Going forward the MySciFiFan Meet Up tomorrow at Burger King, One Utama will develop the initial plotline that vkff1977 has shared with some me and fishyahoo. ;D

I'll be glad to help in anyway in terms of design or storyboards if this gets moving. Can't wait to see a Malaysian SW fan film. By the way, a fellow SWAGger, Evan Black, with his friends, have created one really well-crafted fan film called The Duke Movie. It's not very serious. It has some laugh out loud humour. The direction, editing and acting is top-notch. The SWAG forum thread is here. The movie can be found at www.empyreus.net/
