anyone know where to get sintra and how much it cost?

Locally it may be available from Ace hardware or some specialised hobby supply shop.

So far I haven't come across any yet.

Are you sure that Sintra may be available in KL at ACE Store? Or could it be regular ABS or Styrene?

If it is true, that means I have something else now to look forward to when I go near Ace store (kinda don't need Krylon Paint anymore as found a shop and its outlet selling it on regular basis now in Singapore)

Nope, no sintra at Ace. Trust me I've checked. Your best bet is styrene sheets from signboard shops.

Pardon my ignorance, but is it almost like Sintra? Or is it a totally different thing together. Googled for it but still unsure if it has the same qualities as Sintra.

Not really.

You can shape Sintra by dipping it in Hot Water but for Styrene and ABS, you need a lot more heat.

When people do Vacuum forming, they usually heat up the ABS/Styrene in an Oven and Pull it over the desired mould.

Ya, from my experience, you can soften ABS a bit (not work with Styrene before) with a Hot Hair Dryer or Heat Gun but the process will be slow and need to be more careful so the joint where the plastic is bending don't break.

I remember some time back, some costumers will call you crazy to use Sintra for big Armor parts like Stormtrooper Armor, especiallly those with details. It might not be as durable as ABS or able to hold its shape well when put under hot conditions like US Summer.

It's okay, for small parts like Shin Guard or Leia Bikini Bra but not for large ones I heard.

Now that Kalkamel has enlightened everyone that Sintra is NOT AVAILABLE locally in ACE Hardware, I've just obtained these fresh inputs on what EXACTLY Sintra is from fellow 501st Legion members :

From TI 822 of the 501st Georgia Garrison,

Sintra is a brand name for "closed-cell PVC foamboard". Most sign shops, signage or plastic supply places will sell it in a variety of colors and thicknesses..

From TK 2388 of the 501st UK Garrison,

One of the European names for Sintra is Foamex. A lot of sign makers use it so its always worth trying them and buying their off cuts/scraps.

From what from Reno a.k.a. Lord Tyranno related to me, the SINTRA Stormtrooper armor worn by the Thailand Star Wars costumers that he has trooped with has a high tendency to WARP after trooping. The SINTRA armor frequently get out of shape and the Thai costumers have to use hair dryers - hot air mode to blow them back into the required shape. Heavy maintenance after each trooping....

Like what Haldir has mentioned, the more practical use for SINTRA is for smaller armored area like the Bra in the Slave Girl leia costume and Shin Guards. The same applies for the Armor plates of the Jango Fett costume as shown in the YouTube Tutorial.
