Ouch, that's happen to me a year earlier & it was Timberland's boots!
The device that was installed in one of the Robocop movies which a theft got electrocuted to dust when he break into a car. Less mess to clean up afterward.

Ouch, I feel your ache(ing feet)
Happened to me a few times but strangely the thief only like Nike shoes. The last pair that was stolen was actually a really worn out pair which I couldn't bring myself to discarding. Either it was too dark for the thief to see its not worth stealing, or he just like Nike shoes...
Now I keep even my more-decent-looking-slippers indoors.
Hmmm...maybe this is not a simple theft, but a revenge upon you by someone who has a grudge? ;D
I feel a disturbance in the Force...

Hmmm...maybe this is not a simple theft, but a revenge upon you by someone who has a grudge? ;D You mean my neighbours?
I feel a disturbance in the Force... I mean is not the monetary value that I feel lost....it is the one pair is quite new (<1 year) and I liked it very much and very comfy, spent lots of time searching for it....and that was the last stock the shop had! The other pair is muc older (but still very good condition)....if they had stolen THAT I could still console myself...but not my newer, favourite shoes! For goodnes sake, if they want shoes just let me know and I'll give them my other older shoes la...as I said, see no evil, hear no evil, know no evil....or, not seeing is not knowing....don't EVER let your things that you don't wanna lose be visible to outside! Leave it all inside or put inside bag/pouch/pockets when going out to your car. Must be like covert already....sigh, that in my own house....SAD...
Now I worried for our car...
In Holland for example where I worked for few months, their landed houses got NO gate! is just open! not even a fence or wall like here, can just walk right up to their main door! And their windows are one big piece of glass, the only metal objects are the window frame, NO GRILLES of any sort! How I envied them....but probably their glass window is those shatter proof type... cannot imagine that here!
Next time don't leave anything outside except some smelly cheap, dispensable slippers...that includes ladders, garden tools, etc. ANYTHING! Just empty porch, maybe pot plants and hose can la...(even that can steal I suppose)
I'm searching for some additional security measures now as I type... next time they/he/she/it(?) won't get away so easily!

If you still insist on keeping your shoes outside, here's a cheaper albeit more deadly (if you have the stomach!) solution compared to an automated intruder offensive mechanism. Train a couple of scorpions or tarantulas. Familiarise them to you or your family so that they do not harm you but to be agitated with anyone else. Every night, place one each in your shoe. The next morning, if you find your shoes missing, do not despair. Just walk a few steps from your gate and you'll notice the thief lying on the roadside, convulsing, if not dead. Take your shoes back and feed your pets!

(But I need real solutions...) Try the sensor alarm. If you don't want to disturb the neighbor, install sensor strobe light (go for industrial type lights that can make the theft goes blind).

Man, I feel your pain. About 5 years ago I loss a pair of brand new Nikes outside my uncle's in Damansara Kim (worn only 3 times - still shiny! Sob!) I really loved that design and I'm not someone who buys shoes often. Boy did I feel the Dark Side that day. I like your security measures Kalkamel. But I was thinking of capturing the perpetrator alive, then treating him to reenactments of Reservoir Dogs or Hostel.
