What? Aya.... another setback (besides the initial high costume investment) now got to throw in another cost (costs as good as the costumer itself!) for the cooling suit ah....wah....so canggih one...we're using technology from the US Army/Marines ke....interesting, didn't know that they had that when in Iraq! No wonder I was thinking how can those guys stand the hot sun (whole day I guess) with ALL that gear, some more with all the physical activities plus the weight of their gear.... I just wear T-shirt, shorts and walk up and down in midday here I sweat like hell oledi! Oh dear oh dear.... my armour is floating further and further away... I suppose in overseas (colder) countries they don't need such coolings suits as it's just nice if they don their helmeted costumes and will actually help keep them warm instead making upt forthe normal Parka/jackets...maybe they just put simple fan venitilations in helmet and that's it... I dunno...never read that anywhere so far until here... But I thought if stay indoors in air-conditioned areas (eg.shopping malls) it should be ok gua...maybe feel a little warm, the helmet sure sweat that's why I though maybe just some "holes" in helmet, some simple mini-fans (like those used for desktops) will do.... Sigh, looks like I gotta move from fully helmeted and armoured costume to (at most) a helmeted and non-armoured costume: Good guys: - Rebel fleet trooper/captain - Rebel Pilot (X-Wing) - Rebel commando (difficult, never seen helmet for sale or DIY) - Naboo soldier (very hard to find/do/high cost!) - Jedi Armour (seen on Ebay but never saw/read it before?) - Any other "light" soldiers/troopers? Bad guys: - General Veers - TIE Fighter Pilot - AT-ST driver - Imperial fleet trooper - Death Star Gunner

Clonetrooper, FYI, a pair of CPU fans inside a trooper helmet is essential to cool u down, even the troopers in cold countries have them installed, so knowing the weather here, the fans r a very important installation. the cooling suit isnt really nessesary if u wanna get a trooper costume, just a nice cotton undergarment is enough, after all, u r not gonna troop in more thn say, 4 hours in one go, and most events r held indoors. You can cut cost by simply find cheaper alternatives to almost anything. The very important thing is the armor of course. The E-11 Blaster, for xample, u can make it urself by combining many diff parts (the gun toy in pasar malam can be modified also). to me, the cooling suit is only nessesary if u wanna be Vader. the leather jumpsuit can get really hot even in an air-conditioned hall. You can see many examples of modification for the trooper kit, eg= www.scgarrison.com/homebase/armour.moviefx2.htmlwww.multiplehat.com/whitearmor/building.htmwww.tk409.com/tk409.htmlthese sites r from the member of the 501st Legion, u see, not everythin is solved with money alone, we need to be smart to cut the cost. Im in the process of learning too. the 1st thing is get the armor then build up from there..

Wah, didn't expect you guys to fall for it...he he he...nolah we don't have the cooling suit...although it really exists, none of us actually bought it (including Kalkamel, who is just 'backing up' my story..he he he ). Sorry lah guys, just wanted to see who would fall for it...he he he ;D
Apart from Vader & the Royal Guard who sweated buckets and needed a break every 15 to 20 minutes, the rest of us, even Dplik in the stormtrooper armour, lasted quite a while, like 45 mins to an hour before we needed to take a break and cool down...this is of course inside an air conditioned complex...
The trick is to not move too much, which was easy since most of the time we were posing for pics only...I even managed to have an impromptu 'duel' with vader ;D

Ha! Ha! Ha! Nice one there pol.
I was also sweating buckets that days in the Mall what with my shirt, vest and the blanket robe.
Well, it is possible to do a home made cooling suit. Mmmmm.....maybe that can be a project too besides making light sabers.

Hi Triplesaber and Plo-Strav-Avix,
sorry only managed to catch your reply to me now (is not because I'm upset or anything! I think the joke's quite funny!). It's difficult for me to track replies to my posts since there's no more "Email me replies to this post" (or something like that) but now after proboards4 upgrade got this "Bookmark" checkbox which I'm not sure will do the same function.
Anyway.... haya, you scared me la with the cooling suit! haha ... but I do agree with triplesaber that (and I'll definetely do that if/when I got a full-face helmet) to put two CPU fans inside it with da on/off switches.
Well, at least now due to this I've readjusted the humour level for Polo-Strav-Avix ! (I shall be more careful next time....ehe). This shows how "green" I am in regards to costume's 'n such.
Ok, gotta go. Chat with ya later!

There's a huge debate at the Fanforce props and costuming forums about the 501st decision to disallow this costume. It's true that the 501st only admits fanmade costumes, but to deny admission to a fan who wants to be Vader with this costume takes the fun out of costuming. I've seen some 501st members whose costumes are far off on the accuracy scale... one of 'em is a member of the Sith Lords contingent and he's dressed as the Emperor with a cheapo robe and a Rubies latex mask which looks grossly horrible and still he's admitted! Another Vader wears a Don Post helmet with a black long sleeve t-shirt with a cape and an inner robe and he's still admitted!! And the 80% accurate Rubies Supreme costume is a no no?? How unfair is that? Personally, if I were to get this costume, I'd line the cape with Satin, give the dome and the shin guards a glossy makeover with some automotive paint and voila! it should be admissible then. Hi folks, I'm aware of this issue from several other forums online...yet I guess I'll still go for this costume if no other on par (in terms of price and accuracy) Vader costume available. I believe fan made costume is far more expensive than this complete suit. Well, even this costume will cost me USD650 (approx. RM2,470++) excluding shipping... However, it has all the basics that I need (i.e. L.E.D. effects on chest box, etc.). Seriously, that amount is huge to me... I believe most of my friends will disagree with my intention to buy such items... Sigh...but being in a Vader suit has been my dream since a kid (I was borned in 1977, and the 1st Sci-Fi movie I watched was Star Wars Episode 4). Perhaps some modifications to this costume will qualify myself to be a member, but again...if I were to spend so much for it, I really wanna take care of it as it is...Who knows modifications to the suit will spoil it? I do hope that 501st considers not only from the costume perspective, but also from how keen to contribute to the organisation a potential member might be... Thanks! Regards, Darth Raider

Too bad, Nexus... I have already bought mine! ;D Cost me USD600!!! Almost the same price as the Rubies Vader suit!! But this one more canggih than yours... it keeps me cool even when I am engulfed in flames. I put the suit to the test the day I got it... I set up a HUGE-ASS bonfire at my backyard, doused with plenty of gasoline, wore the cooling suit and literally jumped into the fire! I stayed in there for almost a good hour, then I had to take out the garbage. But throughout the fiery experience, I remained cool! ;D Hi there! Since you bought something for USD600, I assumed that you went through the local customs import duty/ sales tax procedures... mind to share your experience as I'm preparing to buy Vader costume, which will definitely going through this process? After serious considerations, I finally decided to buy this costume. The transaction is currently in process and shipment will happen in 4 weeks...Despite it is expensive, but at least I fulfilled my dream to be in this costume after so many years...I guess I'm gonna fasten my belt for months to come LOL Looking forward to join you all!!
