Very nice hardware stunt saber Kal. Are the grips made from cut-up windshield wiper plastic strips? Is the shord and the black centre band PVC tubing?

You're right about the grips. They're from a pair of old winshield wipers I had... they're not truck wipers though... just from my trusty Proton. The main body of the saber is an aluminium tube about 10.5 inches in length and 1.25 inches in diameter. Both ends are not covered up... I still haven't figured out how to do that. The shroud and the centre black piece are actually pieces cut out from a black plastic folder! Now I need a d-ring and a scart cable end (to act as the control box) to finish it off, together with some minor stuff. This looks a lot better than the oversized plastic Rubies/Hasbro saber that's why I constructed it. Wish I could make real replicas like the ones in your collection, though, Pol... having seen them in the flesh, they are absolutely cool looking!

Both ends are not covered up... I still haven't figured out how to do that. Simple. Buy a 2-part epoxy(you'll need the type that comes in 2 cylindrical metal tins, same size as the smallest tins of paint you can buy), mix a generous amount together, stuff enough into one end till the entire insode of the tube is filled up(but no more then half-inch into the tube, or else you're just wasting the epoxy), then quickly turn sit the end of the tube on a piece of newspaper on a very very flat and very very stable surface(pre-select the stable flat surface and have the newspaper taped down first before you start), and let it settle and cure for 24 hours. make sure nobody touches it or moves it. I usually place it inside a cabinet I can lock up.
When its cured the epoxy will be solid as a rock, and can be sanded smooth and painted. Any inperfections or gaps can be filled up using a bit more epoxy and sanded smooth, but make sure to let it cure for 24 hours again before sanding.
Or you can take the easy way out and use a PVC end cap The shroud and the centre black piece are actually pieces cut out from a black plastic folder! They look great! well done! Its always good to see creativity and resourcefulness at work. Wish I could make real replicas like the ones in your collection, though, Pol... having seen them in the flesh, they are absolutely cool looking! Well they had better look good considering they were the exact ones used in the movies and also for what I paid for them!
What impress me more is how good people like you, Rahim, Dougles, Kenny and the rest who make sabers from whatever you can find and come up with something that look almost as good and for a fraction of the price

Thanks for the advice and encouraging words, Pol. When there's enough will to own some special prop, we can find unlikely ways to build it ourselves, especially when we can't fork out the dough to own the real one. I've always belived that its better to actually get your hands dirty and start building your desired project instead of rambling on and on about going to do it. The feeling you get once you've completed a project is absolutely priceless!

The feeling you get once you've completed a project is absolutely priceless! Hi Kalkamel, FIRSTLY a JOB WELL DONE so far.. I look forward to see your refurbished and COMPLETED Darth Vader costume and insyallah get yourself a place at the 501st Legion.
I HEARTILY AGREE with you on getting both hands down and dirty instead of rambling on and on, but NOTHING gets done. Haha now that I've kept my peace after completing my Tusken Raider costume , its about time for a comprehensive Tusken Raider tutorial to be posted here in MySciFiFan - STAR WARS Props and Costume Section! ;D
