Hi all,
I thought that perhaps for the good of all and those who have intentions of joining the 501st Legion or who are in the process, I would like to share some information on the whereabouts to procure some of the (quite) hard-to-find items and services to complete any of the costumes that you may be pursuing after.
Feel free to submit your info to be shared amongst us too.
For boots worn by Imperial TIE Pilots and AT-ST drivers :-
NYB Safety Supplies & Service (1329630-U)
Contact Person: Mr. Ngeoh
H/P: 012-296 3968
Where?: Klang, but he usually will go and meet his clients.
Website: www.nybsafety.com/Texas%20Boot.htm
E-Mail: ybngeoh@tm.net.my
Synopsis: After going through so many sites offering industrial safety boots, I finally stumbled upon this site which, with Peter's guidance and advice, both Huzaifah & I managed to procure the boots at RM98 a pair. The code that you should look out for is 3309 black. Be advised that whatever size that you are currently wearing does not apply to the safety boots' size as it has been known to be larger than the standard market size. So I would advise you all to try on at least 2 pairs to feel the difference. We wouldn't want you to come home with blisters after trooping, do we? After all, blisters do not make one a happy trooper.
Tailoring and jumpsuit size altering
RS Leather & Jeans
Contact: Big Boss (I haven't learnt his name yet )
H/P: 016-343 6813 / 012-224 4684
Where?: Lot FF12, 1st Floor, Pertama Complex, Jalan TAR, 50100 KL
Website: None
E-Mail: None
Synopsis: Following Peter's advice, I dropped my black TIE Pilot jumpsuit to have the correct pockets made and the size altered. One plus thing about this shop is that the people, from the workers to the Big Boss himself, is a patient and jolly ol' fellow who is willing to listen to his clients' requests. Their charges are pretty affordable too.
2-inch belt worn by Imperial officers, AT-ST Drivers & TIE Pilots
RS Leather & Jeans
Synopsis: Dropping by occasionally to check on the status on my flightsuit altering process, I casually asked Mr. Ahmad (The Big Boss) on the price of a custom-made 2-inch black belt w/o the chrome buckle as I had difficulty procuring one that fits the 2-inch requirement. The belt goes for RM50, and comes with a simple PVC backing. The reason that he's willing to quote cheaper compared to other shops is due to the fact that I dropped off my flightsuit and gloves at his shop for modifications. Bear in mind that you need to visit his shop to get a good estimation for the length of the belt or submit your own measurements based upon your best judgment [Tip: A size 32 waist gets a 44-inch in length belt].
Glove altering for Imperial AT-ST Drivers, TIE Pilots & other 501st characters in general
RS Leather & Jeans
Synopsis: Again, RS comes into the spotlight. Huzaifah bought for me a pair of cool biker gloves for RM20, and I promptly sent them to RS for modifications by having extra leather (of the same grain, preferably) sewn around it. As before, it is advisable for any to-be member of the Fighting 501st to take a good long look at as many reference pictures as you can, due to the fact that differerence of height that prevails in all humans mean that the length of leather to be added to your gloves will differ from person to person. I had fairly average arms, and judging by a sample TIE Pilot picture I had, I added about 12 centimeters more to the glove. Highly advisable to make your own personal arm measurements.
Greeblies for the Fighting 501st
Elvistrooper
Contact: Elvis Trooper
H/P: He's overseas. Phone calls are gonna be pricey
Where?: Somewhere in the States
Website: www.elvistrooper.com
Synopsis: I shall leave this area for Peter as he is much more knowledgable in it. But all I can say is that the three greeblies that I used for my bucket and belt costs RM44.50.
Oxygen hoses for the TIE Pilot helmet
Ace Hardware
Contact: Too many stores to list down a specific phone number
Where?: As before, just look for your nearest outlet
Website: www.acehardware.com.my
Synopsis: Somehow or the other, the breather hoses that came shipped along with the chestbox just didn't make the cut; it was too rubbery-hard, heavy, inflexible, and the color scheme was wrong. I just had to get the lighter, black ribbed version, but the countless hardware shops I inquired just didn't stock what I wanted. I tried ribbed washing machine hoses but they turned out just like my current set - rubbery, hard, heavy, and most of all, not available in black. I decided to try Ace Hardware as a last resort, and I found out where I went wrong. Instead of looking for the washing machine type of hose, I should've instead snooped around the electrical section as the correct type that all TIE Pilots and/or AT-AT drivers should get are those black ribbed plastic electrical housings which ARE IN THEIR DEFAULT BLACK. Of course, white is also available for AT-AT drivers, but the default black comes in either glossy black, or semi-matte black. Your pick. Just remember to get a minimum of 1 inch in diameter or the recommended 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 inch types.
Hope the above helps. I will edit this entry whenever I have new info.
