how abt the usual - make love not "war"? ;D Scant little of that in Star Wars... OK, discussion point... If the Jedi are forbidden to love and form close relationships, isn't that just simple sending themselves to extinction since Force talent is largely inherited? So, Jedi can't have babies mean progressively less Jedi. If the Jedi could make babies within their own, then there's no need to seek out fresh Force talent throughout the Galaxy. In fact, the Jedi could simply control their own numbers or procreate somemore and conquer the galaxy... har, har... Dark Side thinking! Hence, maybe Love is a Dark Side emotion deemed too dangerous to practice

That, is an interesting point.
But maybe we're looking at it from the wrong angle. jedi may not be encouraged to love, hate or fear, but that doesn't mean they can't procreate. Remember the Jedis in the SW universe they are not humans. Yes, difficult I know, since they look human, behave like human and are human in every way, but they're NOT human, so they might not NEED love to procreate. They may be able to procreate for the sake of procreating...
Just like so many people on earth decide to have a baby without being married, or the need for the other half of the equation. Example: women who get themselvespregnant using artificial insemination with sperm from sperm bank, Men who use sorogate mothers, e.g. Michael Jackson, etc etc etc...what does love have to do with any of these?NOTHING!
Ok that's my 2 cents. I'm sure Hisham will have something to say about it ;D

What not HUMAN? My understanding is that the humans in the Star Wars universe are HUMAN and bred like we do (Anakin being exception). There are certainly also many alien Jedi in the Prequels but yes there seems to be more humans than others though there are many non-humans represented in the Jedi Council.

I read a long time ago somewhere that there are no humans in the SW universe, not like those on earth anyway. They may or may not procreate the way we do but they certainly do not share the same genetic strains as us. I think its something like comparing a chimpanzee with an orang utan - very similar but also very different.
But then again I never bothered to find out iof this information is canon or not. I read it for the fun of it off some website, so I could be wrong... ;D

aren't you contradicting yourself by one minute saying humans need love to procreate and the next making babies without it? Love is more required for raising the kid that for creating one. Heh, maybe the humanoids in Star Wars are like Sebaceans (Farscape reference). We do love to see ourselves as the perfect form. Somebody should make them read Planet of the Apes...

First I said "Jedi may not be encouraged to love, hate or fear, but that doesn't mean they can't procreate", meaning Jedi's don't need love to reproduce.
Then I gave the human equivalent for comparison: "Just like so many people on earth decide to have a baby without being married, or the need for the other half of the equation", which means a lot of humans don't need love to reproduce as well.
How did I contradict myself there? ;D
