Episode 3 brings all the chills, the doom and the rise of power to the legendary Sith. Lucas pulls all his wizardy, his artistic visions into reality and finally after years of waiting, his vision is complete.
The opening sequence grips everyone in their seats. Thanks to the THX, everyone can participate and experience the seamless battle scene. Sheer brilliance of composition and it stands at par with ESB : Battle of Hoth. The color palate is beautifully rendered and the quality of the digital animation is realistically rendered.
The charaters are now fully developed. Ewan really adds the black humor and the detachments quality of being a Jedi Master, while Hayden adds the cockiness ala Han Solo this time. Lucas really adds more dimension to the Droids. R2-D2 became more feisty and just loved the way how it shouts when the ship is free falling.
As usual, ROTS had it's share of their Hindi film moments by introducing cheesy dialogues, crying and lovable comtemplative moments. I really dont see much of Amidala this time. The brave Queen had changed to a simpering female that do nothing except offering complaints and asking hugs.
The sudden change of her attitude baffled me. She died giving birth to the heroic twins. She had lost her will to live.
Ian McDiarmid really adds cool classic touch with his role. His powerful delivery to his line is brilliant. It is been ages since SW have credible actors.Liam Neeson is completely wasted in EP1.
To make short, this 10 list which could be discussed and be appreciated by any movie fan.
10: The way how R2 runs and hide. ( i dont know that R2 have a loudspeeker or a hands free mode )
09: R2 being kicked and the way it shouts.
08: Yoda said goodbye to Tartful and Chewie ( just look at Yoda's expression. It really can make any Malayisan actors to shame and heck, it is digital animation.)
07: Emperor Royal Guard being tossed aside. ( those guards really makan gaji buta. Just loved tp see Mos Ammeda caught between them. It is hillarious when you are caught and dont know what to do anything except standing like a fool )
06 : Yoda counter attack him, Emperor falls into his chair back.
05 : The Jedi younglings asked what they should do to Anakin. ( look at the kid's expression and his intonation)
04 : Anakin's marches into the Jedi temple. ( the colors used are brilliant. Dark edgy visuals shows what the audience should expect. )
03 : Obi-Wan leavin Anakin as a dissapointed man at Mustafar.
02 : The contrasting scene where Anakin is ressurected while Amidala giving birth to the twins. The concept of death and rebirth. Anakin's scene is in dark tones while her wife is entirely in white background.
01 : The way how Lucas make everyone see what is inside of Vader's helmet. Beautifully done. The close shots of how the helmet is placed.
ROTS stands in the same rank of ESB. I dont care if the story arc doesnt tally. Lucas is back at his best where he entertain and make everyone enjoy the ride. He no longer have to bow down into details and the complex analogy of things. Anyway i do felt a cloud of sadness wrap me when the movie ends.
Believe me.......one of my pal called me up and said that this is the first time he felt sad while another one told me a 40 year old fan sobbing in Amcorp Mall cinema when the credits roll.
Thank You for the memories George Lucas.
