wrong timeline, bro ... dominion war is 24th-century, kirk/spock era is 23rd-century ... perhaps they may play around the Romulan War instead. No, what i meant is totally dump the kirk/spock era idea. Since it's risky enough to what happened to 'Enterprise', why go back in time to mingle with history? Stay at 24th century & create a new story from there; dominion war as an example.

I support the idea of a sequal, rather than a prequal ... but this won't happen as J.J. already said it's to be between Archer and Kirk timeline liao ...

www.firstshowing.net/2007/02/24/jj-abrams-directing-star-trek-xi/Finally It's Confirmed: J.J. Abrams Directing Star Trek XIFebruary 24, 2007 by Alex Billington After months of off and on rumors about J.J. Abrams directing Star Trek XI, confirmation has finally come from Hollywood Reporter. The buzz on this is spreading like a virus around the internet, eliciting hopes that Abrams won't ruin the franchise and that the creator of “Lost” may bring a triumphant return to the beloved series. The 11th installment will actually be a prequel to the original television series and the first movie, as it follows the first meeting of a young James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock at Starfleet Academy and their first space mission. No other details or casting information has been announced, but keep watch here on FS.net as it all unveils. It's currently set to open on July 2nd, 2008.
The reports say that the deal with Abrams was officially signed just last Friday. Also part of the rumor mill for this film is that Matt Damon was supposedly going to play Captain Kirk, but that rumor has since been debunked and just about every other male actor has been rumored to be in the talks for either Kirk or Spock as well.

I just hope they won't cast Jim Carrey as Spock ( like in Dumb and Dumber)

Looks like IGN has a scoop on the casting. movies.ign.com/articles/767/767783p1.htmlApparently the studios are negotiating with Matt Damon as Kirk, Adrien Brody as Spock and Gary Sinise as McCoy. Sinise's casting would be an inspired choice!

Cinematical just posted an exclusive report about the Paramount Pictures presentation today at the San Diego Comic-Con and here is the excerpts regarding the Star Trek XI (or simply "Star Trek") panel attended by producer/director J.J. Abrams, star Zachary Quinto and legendary Star Trek star Leonard Nimoy.
According to the report, Abrams and his team are desperately trying to find a way to put Star Trek star William Shatner as James T. Kirk in the movie. "We're desperately trying to figure out how to fit Shatner, and it needs to be worthy of him and the movie. So we're on that. And we're looking for a Kirk. Do you guys have any ideas for Kirks? Anyone?" asked Abrams, revealing that the new Kirk has yet to be cast. They start shooting in November. They do have a casting confirmation ... Zachary Quinto is indeed the new Mr. Spock. For those not in the know, Quinto plays the villain Sylar in the hit TV series "Heroes".
Asked how much of his performance will be influenced by Leonard Nimoy, Quinto told the audience "Well, as much as he'd like it to be, since he's working on the film, which is an honor."
And so there is the big news : Leonard Nimoy returns as an older Spock in the movie. "He's donning the ears one more time!" quips Abrams. Nimoy comes out on stage and says "People have been asking me why I'm doing this movie, and I think the answer is obvious, we have a great director, a wonderful script, and a wonderful young actor playing Spock, so ... it was logical."
Abrams says he'll be back next year at Comic-Con with a lot more Star Trek information.
