Transcription of the second half of the Amanda Tapping Interview from the MGM UK Stargate SG-1 DVD site. This interview was part of the MGM UK site exclusive downloads area, for those fans who have bought the Region 2 DVDs. I don't know if this interview will be on a Season 8 DVD or not. We'll have to wait and hear from Region 2 DVD Season 8 purchasers.
(This interview was filmed on the last day of filming for Season Eight. The interview is conducted in the SGC Gateroom, with Amanda Tapping wearing the blue BDUs (the blue BDU shirt fully buttoned down the front), and Amanda filmed from mid-torso up. Amanda sounds a little congested…for whatever reason I don't know. The interview length is 2 minutes, 40 seconds. Amanda is the only one on camera. Title cards show the topics, and then we see Amanda respond.)
AMANDA TAPPING…ON SOCIALISING WITH THE ATLANTIS TEAM
We don't have time to see them. We had a dinner…SciFi had a dinner for us a couple of weeks ago, and it was the first time we had really seen each other in such a long…Like we pass each other on the lot, "Hey, how's it going!" But we really don't get to see each other. It's odd. And people keep thinking, "Oh, there's this huge rivalry. You guys hang out all the time. And rrrrr (makes this cute little face). And we don't. We don't get the opportunity.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON HOW SAMANTHA HAS DEVELOPED AS A CHARACTER
She's…softened. She started very didactic, very out to prove herself, in a not so accessible way. I think she put up a lot of walls, because, she was like, you know, I am a woman and I can do just as well as you can. As opposed to settling back and saying, see what I'm capable of. The writers and producer to their great credit have warmed her up. She now has a sense of humor. She's a lot softer, she's not afraid of her femininity so much.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON WHAT SHE SOULD LIKE TO SEE IN FUTURE EPISODES.
Every year I say this: the coming together of the team…more. More stories based on their interactions as a team and how they deal with what they're dealing with. As opposed to individual stories so much. And she is now a Colonel -- she's a Lt. Colonel. And we've seen her in command and I'd like to see more of that. I'd like to see her expand on that. You know, see her plan a mission; see her follow them through. That kind of thing.
AMANDA TAPPING…ON HER USO TOUR OF QATAR (Note: The video title says Iraq, but they were in Qatar, as Amanda mentions)
We did a USO Tour shortly after 9/11, and we went to Qatar. And I hung out with the women there. It's astounding to me. I mean these were mothers with little babies at home. This was just before Christmas. These were just phenomenal women. One of them was in mission planning. And her job was to coordinate every aspect of the mission from the number of rolls of toilet paper that went up to the front, to the number of bullets, to how many troops were going to be mobilized -- where and when. I was so blown away by that. I was so…listening to her tell her stories, and I was just like -- every minute detail. So I would like to explore that, sort of as an homage to those women who -- the unsung men and women -- the unsung who do all that sort of thing. I mean you see us going (mimics marching) ta-da-ta-ta - in the front lines, and off we go, and here we come to save the day. You don't see all the people behind us who make it happen.
