Just thought I'd start a thread about my second passion in life (first being Star Wars roleplaying). So, what campaign/race/class are you playing at the moment? Any useful tips/adventure ideas/new rules/random nonesense to share about your D&D experiences? Feel free to share your thoughts here. ;D

Been awhile since I last played... in fact it was called AD&D then. Har de har! And I hate aboleths. Slimy giant cave dwelling catfish with 3 eyes. Plus, I'm guessing fishyahoo will move this thread to Fantasy --> Games when he realizes it.

Yup, just moved it. I recently joined up with a 3rd Ed. RPG group. Quite confused considering last time I looked at D&D was over 10 years ago in the days 2nd Ed. was just released. Seems to have many new features to make PCs more interesting. Started with whussy level 1 wizard in a low-level gang. Have issues even with kobolds ;D and massacred by nasty wildlife below: Oh, the other cool thing is we now got DnD miniatures

Nice pic of your game, fishyahoo. And thanks for moving this thread too. ;D I'm currently running a Forgotten Realms game at home, set in the Pirate Isles. Oh what fun it is to watch PC's trying to fight pirate ghouls in the water without the swim skill. One nearly died from becoming paralysed via a ghoul's touch and almost drowned. But I do insist, I'm not a Killer DM.

Reminds me of this adventure I read in Dungeon, (the issue with Irfan as the planet in Polyhedron, our first stop in the Wild Gundark, remember, at the gas giant with the Guardian customs frigate?) It was set in Greyhawk as opposed to Faerun, however. A pirate ship sank and broke a seal that let out evil demons that caused the pirates' dead bodies to reanimate and terrorise a nearby island. PCs had to discover what was causing the attack and such. Had a peryton, a chuul and a couple of sea hags as encounter monsters.

I have that issue Hish (Gary Astelford's article with Irfan's name in it is why I bought it. Had'nt read that Greyhawk adventure, though it sounds like a lot of fun. In the Pirate Isles game o' mine, titled 'The Haunted Hoard' the PC's are aiding a half-vampire smuggler captain (think Blade crossed with Han Solo) and his crew of the Wave Wyrm locate the hidden treasure of the dead pirate Captain Merth Silverblood. The PC's have thus far followed a trail of clues that have led them to Silverblood's old wreck of a ship, that mystically rose to the surface from the seabed. They've battled Silverblood's aforementioned cursed ghoul pirates, battled their way through a dragon turtle graveyard below the waves and found themselves on an island that was cursed by a virulent plague, let loose upon it by a Priestess of Talona (desease, pestilence etc.). The inhabitants of this island are the mutated survivors of the plague who now breed true, as a race of cannibalistic, tribal mongrelfolk (think: The Island of Dr. Moreau ). After recently watching The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, I statted up this guy as one of the mutated creatures on the isle, as a little homage. ;D.

To make this beast I used Green Ronin's Advanced Bestiary (a really useful book of cool templates basically). The 'Cyclotaur' uses a centaur for the base creature, with a 'half-giant' template slapped on top. Although not as powerful as a normal giant, it certainly did the trick of frightening the wits out of the 4th level party. ;D
Whilst most of the group did indeed use ranged attacks against it, the crazy fighter in the group jumped off a tree branch onto it's back and rode it, stabbing at the furious Cyclotaur with his blade (just like Sinbad did in the movie).
It's stats are:
Okhorr, Cyclotaur 2nd Level Barbarian Large Monstrous Humanoid (Giantkin) Hit Dice: 4d8+16 plus 2d12+8 (56 hp) Initiative: +4 Speed: 50 ft. Armour Class: 21 (+4 Dex, +4 natural, -1 size, +4 armour), touch 13, flat-footed 17 Base Attack/Grapple: +6/+17 Attack: Masterwork greataxe +13 melee (3d6+10 x3) or thrown rock +9 ranged (2d6+7) Full Attack: Masterwork greataxe +13/+8 melee (3d6+10/x3) and 2 hooves +8 melee (1d6+3) or thrown rock +9/+4 ranged (2d6+7) and 2 hooves +8 melee (1d6+3) Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Rage 3/day, rock throwing Special Qualities: Darkvision 60ft., fast movement, giant's blood, illiteracy, rock catching, uncanny dodge Saves: Fort +10, Ref +8, Will 7 Abilities: Str 24, Dex 19, Con 19, Int 9, Wis 15, Cha 12 Skills: Climb +10, Intimidate +4, Listen +6, Move Silently +5, Spot +8 Feats: Extend Rage, Extra Rage Challenge Rating: 6 Alignment: Neutral Evil Possessions: Masterwork greataxe, rusted chainmail armour and a satchel containing 4 Large rocks.
Rage (Ex): Whilst raging, Okhorr's stats are as follows: Str 28, Con 23; Will +9; hp 68, melee + 15/+10 (greataxe 3d6+12/x3). Rage lasts for 14 rounds. After the rage ends, Okhorr becomes fatigued (-2 Str, Dex and can't run/charge) for the rest of the encounter.
Rock Catching (Ex): Once per round, as a free action, Okhorr can catch a rock that would normally hit him. Okhorr must succeed at a Reflex save in order to catch a rock. The DC is 15 for a Small rock, 20 for a Medium one and 20 for a Large one.
