ABOUT THE BAND
Paint It Black consist of Ragu & Gabriel, an Australian who teaches music in Australian International School. This two piece band plays mostly commercial music from the 80's & 90's
Viji and Fasy said to be the most under-rated duo in the country. Viji is the veteran journeyman of the local pub scene having performed solo for 15 years and collaborated with many others -- most successfully with Alex Peters for the inimitable Flower Power!! With partner Fasy on the electric guitar, Viji has re-emerged with a powerful blend of his growling voice, scintillating solos and a repertoire that harkens back to the guitar-driven days of 70s. Fasy's energetic playing and some surprise lesser-known blues and mellow rock numbers.
Expect some Deep Purple, CCR, Bob Dylan, Santana, Muddy Waters, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Simon & Garfunkel and James Taylor.
Purple Haze is helmed by drummer Shaikh Karim (formerly the band leader of Blues Gang, a popular Malaysian blues/rock band in the 80s & 90s) with Rubi at the mike, backed by Azizi and Shah, the guitarist. The group has awesome blues repertoire and plays also stuff from Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd.
Stormy Weather was formed in 1998. The members are long time friends featuring William Culas on drums, Vincent Tuan on guitar, Finton Tuan on Bass and Soon Hoe (a HATI volunteer) on vocals/ guitar.
Julian Mokhtar has been a professional musician since 1980 and has since become a well - known name on the Malaysian music scene. This is mainly due to his 13-year stint as lead guitarist of the Blues Gang, a popular Malaysian blues/rock band. During this period Julian recorded 10 albums with the group, which yielded several hit songs. A high point was jamming onstage with blues guitar legend Buddy Guy at the Hard Rock Café, Kuala Lumpur in 1992.
A self-produced, self-funded project, Julian's solo album, "About Time" was released in 2000. The tracks on the album are a showcase of varied styles reflecting Julian's range of influences. There is the expected acoustic & electric blues and the country/folk styled "Jack & Jill" and "Gallows Pole" and three instrumentals. "Absent Friends", a spacey mind trip, the rock / joget rave-up "Fred The Mutant" and the lyrical slide guitar piece "Fire, Water & Love".
