I'm trying to make a predator costume out of trash and i'm just getting at the mask. I'm making the armour out of boxes. The front part of the mask with a motorcycle helmet (The plastic transparent part) and the rest made using papier mache. But I was wondering if anyone can help me suggest something i can use for the round part on the predators head cuz i cant find anything. The body is going to be a problem too without latex stuff... I'll be grateful if anyone can help me...

Hey Obiwankenoobie.
That's a real hard choice. Did you catch the Pred costume at Cineleisure over the last weekend? Pretty authentic huh? Those Singaporean MovieMania guys would probably have been able to give valuable advice on how to piece one together yourself. Imagine making one without the helmet! You'd have to tape a crab to your face! I'm just shooting in the dark here, but maybe a long sleeve turtle neck dyed beige or a body stocking, and then speckled with black clothes dye to simulate the spots/moles on the Pred body. You might have to use a paint brush to get the brown shades right. Then a knit/mesh top over it. This is assuming you have a pretty fit body. Wouldn't papier mache come apart rather easily? You could use rubber tubing or a hose for the dreadlocks. Motorbike gloves or cut-off golf gloves for the hands. Just keep your nails grown out. Haha! Pretty amateurish, huh?

Hey kudos to you Noobie for attempting to scratch build yourself a Pred costume. This is going to be a really challenging, but also very interesting project.
You should take pics along the way and post a progress thread so that others can see how this endeavour unfolds.
Why don't you drop by the Outpost sometime this week, bring everything you have so far, and I'll see if I can give you some suggestions/tips.
I'm in no way an expert in costume making but I have a brain that can think of many possible solutions to a problem, if I get the chance to evaluate in detail what the problem is, or what needs to be done to achieve an objective.
I'll PM you my contact details so you can call before you drop by.

You might wanna use the helmet visor as a base due to the curved shape but in order to get the proper texture of the mask you would need to use some sort of sculpting material. Remember that the Predator's bio mask is thick whereas the visor is thin. You might wanna try paper clay which can be bought at Multifilla in Balakong. Sculpt the clay over the visor to give it depth then detail it with some basic sculpting tools. Paper clay air dries so its easier than Sculpey which you need to bake in an oven.

Indeed, its gonna be super-hard. I'll try my best to complete it tho'... (and also find time to make it in between my studying for SPM 2007 ) Anyways, me being a pred fan and the desire to be more than human is enuf to push me to finish it:> I'll do it:>

Sweet mother of... Can i know, in this weather of ours, how hot does it actually get in that latex suit. I remeber it took me only 2 hours of trooping to almost faint in my Vader suit.

Sweet mother of... Can i know, in this weather of ours, how hot does it actually get in that latex suit. Just remember to drink a lot of water and go to the toilet before suiting up. Some say that before wearing "warm" costumes, you either sweat into the suit if it can hold moisture ( like Wampa, Wookie) or wearing something cotton to absorb your sweat. But of course, do the 1st method ONLY if you're sure you DON'T stink when all sweaty tho' a layer of Anti-Prespire or Deoderant may help to reduce the smell.
