Does anybody know how to apply paint on a latex surface (mask)? Hobby supplies here are limited and i'm not sure if you can use arclyic paint over a Tamiya brand surface Primer on a latex surface. IF you can..will the paint surface not crack together with the primer surface?

I do agree with you that the availability of the special types of paint that enable you to paint of latex surface could be limited in Brunei and perhaps in Peninsular Malaysia as well. The closest thing that I could get was face paint that uses latex as its base compound, which I used to paint over my fake flesh in my first and second appearance as the "scarred and deformed" Emperor Palpatine  , shown in this pic below :
However, I suggest that you post this same thread over at the Costuming Section of the 501st HQ forums. I'm confident that some of our talented and experienced 501st Legion members over there could direct you to the RIGHT TYPE and BRAND of PAINTS specially made to apply on latex surfaces (e.g. mask).

I did try to ask but the all the stuff used for latex painting is out of our reach and ordering them is a totally different story post 9/11 and all. I'm sure you know what i mean. Anyway, i think (if i do gather the courage) i'll just have to a pint it with arcylic paint. Swim or sink..here comes one of Life lessons. ;D

In a previous lifetime (aka a looooong time ago) I was an apprentice to a guy who made character costumes.
He made the body out of fun fur and the head out of foam sheets covered in latex paint. I used to help him mix the paint and to save money he mixes latex glue (aka wood glue) with paint pigments. I forgot exact what paint pigment he used but I think poster colour (or any kind of water-based paint) will mix well with latex glue, which is also water based.
You need to experiment a bit by diluting the latex/paint mixture with water so you can brush it on with a brush. You can also use your fingers/hand to spread it as its water based and can be easily washed off.
Try it on some scrap latex (or the inside of your mask) and see how it works before using it on the front of your mask.

Sadly i think we don't have any Latex glue available here.. i did ask a friend if latex glue was available and he answered ,"No, no condom factory here!!" ;D Anyway, again another great advice and with that i would like to say to you..Thank you.  Yes, helpful you have been. |

Honestly Peter, i'm not sure about importing(through mail) any chemical compound. I remebered when my armour came.. on checking my parcel, the custom officer said that i was lucky that he was on duty(got to know him a little with every parcel that came my way...the post office is my personnel shopping mall!addicted to collecting parcel i am.) or the ABS glove would not have been allowed to pass. I'm not familiar with the rules but who am i to question him ( just happy that my ABS glue did not get confiscated). Hope that clears the air abit.  |

Don't ask for latex glue, ask for 'wood glue'. They are the same thing. Its that milky white stuff they use to fix pieces of wood together.I remebered when my armour came. Honestly Peter, i'm not sure about importing(through mail) any chemical compound. Your best bet is to check out with Brunei's Custom, Police and maybe even Postal Service.  If a country as strict as Singapore will allow certain things to be brought in as long as permission, permit etc had been seek before importing, and registration done after importing, maybe the blade blunted etc, and the item is not exactly that dangerous or can be used in a robbery etc, I dun see why with proper protocols followed, Brunei won't allow it too. If you don't try, you never know. Ya, we depended a LOT on luck but some times, it doesn't come. |
