Hi, guys,
I would like to ask if any of you happen to know where I can get some processed rattan or wicker of various sizes that I can weave myself. I am based in KL.
Projects in mind -
1) Haradrim armour 2) Quillions for bamboo 'swords', SCA-style 3) Possible shield if I really, really REALLY don't have better things to do!
Thanks!

Have you tried the yellow pages? May be able to find something there.
When I used to live & work in KL I used to see this shop making and selling rattan furniture on the road between Flamingo hotel and Zoo Negara (forgot the name of the road, is it the outer ring road?), on the same side of the road as Flamingo hotel. Not sure if its still there since the last time I passed by there was years ago. There also used to be a shop further down the same road that makes huge chunky sofa sets out of nothing but bamboo trunks. I think now they've moved to an industrial area due to the road widening project.
There also used to be an old man who sells his hand-woven ratton & bamboo ware near the shops in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong, but don't know if he's still there. Used to have his number but can't find it anymore. Not only can he get you the bamboo he can probably make it for you for a small fee, if you can show him how to make what you want.
Sg. Buloh light industry area is another good place to look for rattan shops and factories.
If you're making a Haradrim armour I want to order one, can ah?

Thanks for the tips, SaberMaster! I'll have a look at the places you mentioned to see if I can get the processed canes off them. I know these basketmakers could do a much much better weave than me (since I never weaved anything in my life!)... but it is a self-imposed challenge to see if I can do something like that. I would like to help out with yours too. However, since I will be doing it for the first time, I need to sort out the messes first and see if I could figure out a shortcut of some sort. I'm the guinea pig. You don't want things that could possibly fall apart on you, hey? Sharpened bamboo staves in my feet are not exactly my fav fashion accessory! hehehe.

Rhyden!!!! * HUGS HUGS* Haldir here. Well, good luck with your Harad. I thot of doing a simple one, those without much armour but that was in the days when I'm sick of wearing my gowns while working, which isn't anymore. I need to stock up on my SW Costumes anyway with the LOTR ones done here and there. ;D

Hey, hey, Haldir! *hugs* Great to see you too. You could always make one for days you need to be a porcupine, bristling with sharps. That is what I am thinking of wearing on days when people just won't take 'no' from me and I got tired of repeating myself. One prickly armour and folks may get a little wary. hehehe. How goes the SW costume making mania? ;D I was musing about making a simple robe since it is not too long before May but we'll see if I hit any inspiration. I am really REALLY keen on making a costume for Narnia after the harad since the movie is slotted for December. But, I don't think I am able to fasten a horse's butt to mine. The armour shouldn't be a problem. I soooo wanted to be a centaur. hehehehe. Maybe if I can convince someone to lend me a stuffed bison head instead? Did I ever say that Richard Taylor and his team at Weta ROCKS!!! *rubs hands* Cool... a new movie to play with till they make the Hobbit!!

How goes the SW costume making mania? I had just stop working so can go back to making my SW Costumes. Am at sewing together my Jedi Tunics for this special Jedi I was suppose to do last Aug. After that if that patterns works, a real Prequel Jedi Garb and a buncha other costumes so I'm well-prepared for the various ROTS Events and Screening here in Singapore this May. I also need a lot of SW Costumes for something this Nov, the same thing I'm going to "pull" like I did last Mar-June. My "workplace" already know my obessions with SW after they got to know about the LOTR one. But there is still that fat, arrogant Elf's armor to complete and cobwebs is appearing around me, waiting for Spotlight here to stock up again on their Krylon Metallic Paint.

This guy, a person I know only by e-mail correspondence, is one of Richard Taylor's man. If you've seen the Extended Edition DVDs, you'll have seen him a lot in the interviews. He's also a big time Star Wars fan and a SWRPG gamer. Reverend Strone

How many costumes you have in place for RotS? Slightly under 2 months left... Back to the Prologue elf... what are you using for the armour (sorry, I can't seem to get away from armour!) What sort of paint is that Krylon? Fabric? Oil-based? Acrylic? Spray or bottle/jar/can? I normally use acrylics from model shops as they don't stink up so much, fairly cheap (for minis paint) and are a breeze to remove. I got sick of cleaning up after myself with bottles and bottles of thinner.

He's also a big time Star Wars fan and a SWRPG gamer. I'm envious. It must be sooo cool to work under the man! Any idea which area he works under? Minis, weapons, costumes, FX etc.? *grins* Should be interesting to see what he comes up with for May.
