Have any of you guys seen the TV series Firefly which was shown Wednesdays after midnight on TV3 last year? It was about a crew of free traders each with interesting pasts making a living in the galaxy. Some of the best characters in a sci-fi TV series ever, and some funny and quirkiest scripts ever.
Sadly the show was cancelled by Fox network after only 10 episodes. And TV3 didn't give the series due respect by airing it at such a bad time.
One of the best things about it was that they switch to speaking in Chinese when they curse, so the US network censors let any danged thing they say through.
Although the show was cancelled, series creator Joss Whedon is almost done with the first Firefly movie: Serenity to be shown in the cinemas late this year.

Watched about 2-3 episodes. Didn't really appeal to be much. Just don't like country Western fell in outer space, literally with horses pulling wagons! One of the best things about it was that they switch to speaking in Chinese when they curse, so the US network censors let any danged thing they say through. Didn't realise that, of was it censored on local TV?

watched the dvd collection of all the firefly episodes.. loved the series.
i kind of like the new twist mixing western with sci-fi and the quirky fact that all the characters do curse in bad mandarin.. or cantonese. hehehe..
each of the characters were funny, original and intense in their own light. pity, the series ended so abruptly.
finally, a series without over the top SFX..original stories and characters to love
sighs...

I know there aren't much exposure regarding about Firefly... but trust me, this is one series that in Amazon.com was considered the most selleable title of all time throughout 2004.
I didn't know much about the series, let alone finding out it was Joss Whedon creating the series (which I won't even go near because that is Buffy, The Vampire Slayer creator). But because of all the people that wrote in their reviews in Amazon.com (including mine as well), that gives me a push up in buying this cool tv series that consist of 14 episodes (3 that was never shown) and a whole lot of built-up potential that is worth watching again and again.
Trust me, it may not appeal much... but if you like space travels with a mixture of space cowboys and a fun ride, this is one series you shouldn't miss. I'm glad I bought this TV Series... and with the movie about to be release this October (not even sure whether it will come to Malaysia at all), I believe the re-introduction will give the Firefly: The Complete Series another boost of sales to come...

I sighted the Firefly DVD collection 'local version' over the weekend. Still don't think it's to my taste so not motivated to get it. Perhaps a meetup screening one days with the hardcore Firefly fans could change by mind.

Kekekeke... a screening? The Pilot episode might be a turn off though... the series takes time to built up to gain a fan... but seriously, watching all 14 episodes will give you a good idea how good this series is...

Caught what little of the show when tv3 aired it (yups, the screening time was bad, plus it kept being bumped off, if I remember correctly, for football matches) Knew that Whedon was behind it, so it was definitely something I'd keep an eye out for (having loved Buffy & Angel all this while). Have an interest to pickup the DVD set (ori vs "@lternative"?) just so that I can watch the series in its entirety. Looking forward to Serenity, let's see if it makes it to our screens here

I heard about it from a friend of mine here. Apparently it's a really good show to watch, so I'm thinking about getting it haha.

My advice? Watch it... it has got to be one of the weirdest yet fun sci-fi shows in recent times. There was a time that I was watching Trek exclusively but I've opened my doors to both Galactica and Firefly. Too bad Firefly only lasted 14 episodes... good thing is that the movie "Serenity" is coming out in September. The local Firefly boxset collection is already available so get it and enjoy good quality sci-fi... better I might say than Enterprise, even.
