From the somewhat "sarcastic" tone of the piece, I think misconception is somewhat imminent. "Fans attend events like the Art of Star Wars exhibition in their costumes, which apparently is a thrilling thing to do." I don't mean to bash what little publicity we have, but instead of saying costume trooping is "apparently" thrilling the article could have just said that we find it thrilling. But whatever the article is supposed to put across, I still feel like we are being portrayed as some weird minority. *takes Darth Maul's double-bladed saber and reverse-stabs self*

It is a dark time for MyScifiFan... confidence gained from multiple public appearances is now shattered because of this article.

if the person who wrote the article isnt well verse with sci-fi universe, this might happen. without any indepth or knowledge, they wouldnt know wat their talking about. remember the anime/manga/hentai issue that created anger to a certain malay newspaper?
but after all this, it's nothing compared to the effort that Richard has gone through. some flaw here & there but readers can diffrentiate good or bad in both of our website. we tried to give the best but some ppl couldnt adapt ways of our thinking yet to better understood our passion.
Hidup MySciFiFan & hidup StarTrek.com.my!

Judging from the good publicity the Movie Mania gang is getting, I seriously doubt it.

Hm, I wouldn't say all is lost for MySciFiFan because of this article... the public may just think we have one or two blur members who talk rubbish about Jedi matters (argh, that would appear to be me). On the other hand Movie Mania have been doing a lot more events than us so far (our Contingent is barely a year old!) so they're kind of 'established' in Singapore.

Not necessarily a lot more... counted we had over 20 appearances last year.

i personally think only the hardcore will know the diff... and as for the general public, most will either: a) glance and think we're all wacko's b) read a bit, and proly skip c) don't even bother to read d) hardcore/fans will go... "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat???" e) those doing PR/MKTG may decide to KIV... f) newbies who might be interested...
in short, we should be hoping that e & f might translate into something for us...

Just curious, are S'porean journalists as blur when it come to writing articles about sci-fi/fantasy groups? I have a friend who is an avid star wars collector. He was approached by a newspapers reporter one day to interview him on his SW collection. He agreed. Reporter: How old are u? SW fan: 40. Reporter: u married? SW fan: Single. Reporter: How long u collected SW? SW fan: Since childhood. All seems innocent questions, until the article appeared in newspapers with the headline ... A 40-year old man only interested in child-play toys until now still single!
