Hi all, So far I have made a tabard from the fun costume shop, I gave them the measurement, its okay looks fine and takes only about 20 minutes. Cost me about RM20. Jaden, Thanks for giving us an update on your progress. Glad to know that you're taking your STAR WARS Prequel Jedi Knight Costume Project one step at a time. What is the color of the material you're using to make your tabard? Will it be the same material for your Tunic and Obi/Sash as well?
Remember one important thing, please AFFIX button snaps on the underside of your tabard around the shoulder/chest areas so that it is SECURED to your tunic when you wear your costume in public on your 1st outing with the MySciFiFan STAR WARS Costumed Contingent. ;D
BTW when is your targetted completion date for your Jedi Knight costume, jaden?

BTW when is your targetted completion date for your Jedi Knight costume, jaden? The same leathery material mentioned earlier in mahogany. I intend to use this material for only the tabard and boot covers. Tunic and Obi/Sash have not decided yet but most probably will be in lighter colour fabric. I have try out the tabard and it is easy to slip from the sholder, so I am thinking of fixing a push button under the tabard. Depending on whether I have time to go and find the fabric and whether I can find the right fabric. After that drawing and designing the pattern and the measurement of all pieces should be quite fast. I also need to spend time at the fun costume to see that my design is followed. I still need to do the hood and get the belt and accessory and etc. It might complete earlier can't promise, but hopefully before nov 06

Push buttons tend to become loose after a while.I still need to do the hood and get the belt and accessory and etc. Be sure to make the hood extra large. Whatever size you have in mind or draw, DOUBLE THE SIZE. I thought I made my hood extra large but it ended up not large enough. Don't worry there's no such thing as a hood that's too large.

Hi all, I have made a boot cover, partly it's hand sewned by me and partly tailored. So far I am satisfied with it, because something that I design can materialized, and looks like a boot, but don't expect it to be perfect. This time the process is not so smooth as the tabard. Because of many small details I wanted, although I know how to design a pattern & do the sewing, but don't have a sewing machine, so I don't really know how it will turn out, sometimes there may need some adjustment on the measurement. Took a long time 2 week plus(waited untill my neck also long already because need to visit the tailor many times to check the work before its completed) . My advice for fun costumer is that if you have complicated jobs to do, particularly if you know how you want it to be, should break down to smaller jobs, do a small step at one time, otherwise you will be dissapointed or may need to do many alteration. Don't expect the tailor to know everything, although they are okay. I have also bought the food capsule and jedi belt. Am getting really busy don't expect to hear from me for a while. Cheers ;D

Jaden, thanks for keeping us updated on the progress of your Jedi Knight costume. I presume that you are using Brown / Black PVC for your boot cover? Just remember one thing, no results will turn out to be perfect on our first attempt, but it gets nearer to our goal with each successive attempt. Most important of all is that you are satisfied that you have done whatever you can to the best of your abilities within time and financial constraints. Just make sure that you allow your boot cover to be adjustable i.e. with velcroed straps on the sides, for betting fitting.Well Jaden that is part and parcel of the costuming process when you've outsourced it to a 3rd party to do it. You have done well by ensuring that your tailor is on the right track, rather than taking it for granted that he/she knows exactly what you have in mind. By frequent monitoring, you've minimised the risk that the end result would not be something that is NOT what you wanted in the first place. I learnt this valuable lesson when I got my very first Darth Sidious hood done. Instead of a LARGE Sith Hood the end result was a SMALL rain coat sized hood , which was acceptable by 2000 standards, but NOT acceptable by today's standards. I have since done 2 more sucessive hoods till I got it right in April 2005. ;DAh words of wisdom from some one who is strong with the Force. That is VERY TRUE indeed. Break up a complex STAR WARS making project into smaller and manageable parts, BUT having the overall completed picture in your mind BEFORE you start. You may do some parts whilst others do the other parts, but it is your responsibility to ensure every part comes together at the end. This is what I will be doing in my forthcoming 501st Legion qualifying costume project.
All the best for the balance of your first STAR WARS Jedi costume and we at MySciFiFan look forward to rejoice with you when your Jedi Knight costume is completed.

Hi all, My jedi belt plus pouches had just arrived, cost me all in about USD282, in addition I didn't expect to have to pay for air port custom charges about RM345++. My husband will think I am crazy to pay so much, I didn't have any guts to tell him what I bought yet. Not that he will get angry but he will say i am wasting money, its my money anyway. ;D The belt is made of real leather, looks real and after trying out with the jedi pouches, food capsules(I bought ealier all in for USD4.25) and the tabard and my boot cover looks great and feels comfortable, I am satisfied. I will post some pics later when I have almost the full costume. Now what is outstanding is the hood and the robe, I could make use of any pants I have to match the colour. Hopefully it will turn out okay

USD282(RM1015) + RM345 Customs Tax = RM1360
That's already above the total I paid for my entire Jedi costume (robe, outer tunic X 2, inner tunic X 3, obi X 2, tabard, pants) and including my custom made knee-high leather boots
And that's just for your belt plus pouches?

Not that he will get angry but he will say i am wasting money, its my money anyway. ;D Jaden, as Plo Strax-Avix already gave his feedback on the investments you have made in your Jedi Knight costume, I'll leave it at that. But what I would like to say is that in the first place it is your OWN Hard Earned Money and the right its yours to spend it as you see fit, period. IMO your hubby has NO right to tell you that you're wasting your money since he does NOT pay your salary. This applies to me and my wife in my case so long as the money is spent on PRIORITY Family Expenses, the rest is up to me on what I want to with it. Jaden, I'm happy to hear of the progress. Now that you have covered the detailed parts, your last challenge is getting the Jedi Robe with the RIGHT SIZED Large Hood. Please do that carefully to get the Shape and Look right.
I'm CONFIDENT that you will be able to complete your first Jedi Knight costume and I look forward to TROOP with in MySciFiFan's Halloween 2006 which is now being promoted at the Halloween 2006 Event. See you there soon, Jedi jaden.

Sorry, but I beg to disagree ... the income of a family is the responsibility of the couple, not just an individual anymore. Me & my spouse has a mutual agreement ... if price of an item is less than 3 digit, we can go ahead to purchase it without seeking consent from each other. However once the item we wanted exceeds the budget, we'd seek a second opinion from each other to determine whether it's a worthy purchase, or any other substitution, or should we wait for a day to cool down the impulse before making the decision again, or just simply seeking each other's understanding to avoid any undue surprises/shocks. This is how we keep our marriage intact by way of check and balance ... my 2 cents.

Doc, you're very lucky in that your spouse also share your interest in Star Trek. Imagine if she has no interests whatsoever in your hobby, and think anything you buy is just junk amd even the smallest amount spent on it is a total waste of money. How would you handle it then?
