Which forum do we use if we want to talk about comics from Superman to Swamp Thing to The Invisibles? (In other words, non-StarWars, non-Star Trek, non-anime comic books)

Good point New board created for Comics under Fantasy category. All genres can go there since there seems to be hardly any sci-fi comics which are non-Star Wars. Also seperate boards created for both SciFi and Fantas categories for anything that doesn't suit the other boards, e.g. how to assemble a microwave? Thanks.

I can tell you how to assemble a microwave...you dismantle all the lightsabers ever built by ILM and PRESTO!, you have all the necessary parts to make a microwave oven! He he he, a bit of prop joke I picked up from another forum

I have 50 plus back issues of Heavy Metal and I pull em out and read em all the time. Some of the stuff in them is now classic graphic novels now, like The Upturned Stone...great read

Comic reading is a dying hobby now. Perhaps, it is costly to peel 12 bucks from the wallet to get a monthly issue and the currency hike against the USD doesnt help either. I noticed comic book retailers are downsizing such as Mind Shop and Final Frontier. Even Diamond Comics now only caters to the selected customers. Kinokuniya and Popular in Ikano do bring some cheer back when they are having a Comics Corner, even though they are carrying paperbacks. Gone were the days where we can enjoy the complexities of Chris Claremont magic and Perez magnifico drawing muscle. Even though Marvels did a great job by bringing their toy line but it still inferior to the reading hobby. Imagine paying RM 18 per issue..........that is something where i need to think twice. Hahahaha...........................
Gempak did a great job by updating what happen to the comic kingdom and we dont have to fork out a hefty sum to get Wizard. It doesnt help when we get pathethic movie adaptations eg : Daredevil and Elektra.
One word that kills everything : the ringgit weak muscle vs the steroid USD.

Yeah, I guess currency is killing this hobby... but then so with other entertainment imports like DVDs, collectibles, books, etc. Anyone have some feel on comic prices between the retailers here? I've been buying from the same shop for the last few years so dunno whether pricing is competitively high or low compared to other shops. What's the standard conversion rate used by shops off the USD price, i.e. USD1 = RM3.80 or otherwise. Thankfully I believe a lower rate is commonly used. Suspect large bookstores like Kunikuniya have pretty good prices. LMK. Thanks.

Price is the reason why I stopped buying comics actively in the mid-90s. Though actually the last complete series I bought by issue was Marvel MAX's b/w US War Machine, a couple of years ago. After all, these days, you have a huge library of TPBs you can buy and read, even in Kinokuniya you can see they stopped carrying individual issues of comic books and stocked up on TPBs. Advantages of TPBs are numerous: - You dont have to wait monthly for a storyline to finish, just buy one whole book and get it over with.
- The publishers never stop reissuing TPBs, unlike individual comics, whose resale value increase after their initial run. (Subsequent printings have lower resale value, which is only important to comics speculators, none of which seem to be active / visible at this day and age.)
- Cheaper pricing compared to the amount of individual issues that build up the TPB.

Price is somewhat of a factor to me, and aviability. Issues of SW:Empire are 5 bucks CDN, or 3 US. However, SW: Tales is 6 USD or 10!!!!CDN. I complain, but I buy. I been keeping up on other comics through more...nefarious means.....P2P seems to have comics up the wazoo and my buddy happens to be generous when I comes to his burner :-)
