A free stand-alone space flight sim based on the Freespace 2 game engine, The Babylon Project. Freespace 2 was probably a one of the best space flight sims to come out in a long time ( or so i read. I have yet to try this game though). So this Babylon Project shouldn't be too far off the mark ? feel free to try. i've not (again), but plan to. one day. i hope.

Ain't that a very old game?

yup, Freespace 2 is a 1999 game. But I'm thinking it had good gameplay and a good engine, which is why it got adopted to be used in The Babylon Project. A good game engine coupled with good gameplay can make a great game, look at Quake 3's engine which was used in Jedi Knight 2 : Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Serious Sam 2, Elite Force 2 and whole lot of other FPS games.

Downloaded the Babylon Project game. Not bad. Playable but a but bit like the old Wing Commander IV. It captured the B5 music score well and the ships are quite accurate. You also get the WhiteStar! No shadows though

ah, our first play tester ! while you're at it, Douglas, would you like to check out another free B5 game project called Babylon 5: I've Found Her ? i installed it and skimmed through the tutorial flight. I did get the feel of Wing Commander IV from it also (which is good!).
