I haven't bought Star Wars TPBs since the mid-90s. There are quite a number of really good ones from Dark Horse Comics such as the Republic series, the Empire series, the Clone Wars series, Marvel series reprints, etc...
To anyone who read at least a few of them, can you recommend which book I should pick up, in terms of good story & art quality?
Thanks.

To anyone who read at least a few of them, can you recommend which book I should pick up, in terms of good story & art quality? Thanks. I find the Dark Horse comics pretty good and reasonably consistent. I picked up the Empire TPBs last month but haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Also waiting to pick-up all the Clone Wars TPB to read-up before EPIII. I think both these series seem pretty good but will hold more comments until I've read them They are also some one-shot issues focusing on specific events or characters like Mace Windu and Yoda. IMO mediocre fare unless you're a big fan for the characters. If you can still find them, get the Dark Empire TPBs. These were very imaginative fare when they were released in the mid-1990s and snapped up quickly by then deprived fans. Dark Empire I is better than its sequel though. The X-Wing series should be quite good as well, contributed by Michael A Stackpole of the novels which tie-in. Have not read all of them yet but planning to pick up sometime (sale?). Happy reading

I was one of those deprived fans. Heh heh. 2 copies of each of the six issues. Only one of the first issues I bought was second printing. In fact if you have the separate issues with you, check out #4's letters page... you'll find a certain Malaysia fan's letter by the name of "Hisham" there. The X-Wing series should be quite good as well, contributed by Michael A Stackpole of the novels which tie-in. Have not read all of them yet but planning to pick up sometime (sale?). I have The Rebel Opposition, The Phantom Affair, Battleground Tatooine and The Warrior Queen. They were all great reads. Especially the first three issues of Phantom Affair, which was fantastically drawn by the late Croatian artist Edvin Biukovic. After that I dropped out of buying comics because they got too expensive for me.

Ah, I see you expert already. Go for the Clone Wars series then, since ties in between EpII and EpIII.

I personally am a sucker for the cl;assic trilogy stuff, pre ANH is nice to read about for the background story, and I could never really get into the Rise Of The Sith stuff, save for KOTOR for Xbox, and the Post DS2 stuff is the world I usually run the RPG, so my preference is for the Empire series, I have the first ten issues and they are amazing

Ditto. The Phantom Affair is often hailed as a 'classic' comic and I completely agree with that. It's a wonderful story, illustrated so beautifully by Biukovic. My recent favourites in the TPB line have been the superb Darklighter and anything with Quinlan Vos and Aayla Secura. Through Vos, we get to see the seedier side of Jedi intelligence work, an aspect I've used in my SW rpg games.

But don't need it so soon since still to clear the Clone Wars stuff before EpIII; got about 5 TPBs to read. Would be good to actually see what the Quinlan Vos and Aayla Secura characters are like. They're so far cool looking Star Wars Miniatures to me without any background other than Aayla being blue and Vos looking alike a Jamaican
