Heres some costuming tips taken from 'Obi-Wan's Jedi-Academy'=
This may seem like a silly subject to be addressing, but there are some costuming etiquette tips to keep in mind when you go out in public, appear at conventions, theatres, etc.. Remember folks, when you go dressed as a character from Star Wars, you are representing George Lucas' vision. You also need to remember small children don't fully understand what's going on…some of them think you are a real Stormtrooper, Darth Vader or whoever it is you are dressed as. Try to remember some of the following when in costume:
Patience, young Jedi... When in the vicinity of children, even when taking a break, try not to smoke. This can "cheapen" the fans experience.
The Green Room. If you've been invited to a convention/event, chances are your hosts will provide a room with drinks, snacks, etc.. Be sure to take a moment to relax and enjoy yourselves, but not at the expense of your event.
Watch your language. Also when around small children please do not curse. We'd hate to turn off a new generation of Star Wars fans, or their parents.
Gimmie money! If you do decide to take pictures with children or sign their photos, it's only right to NOT accept money from them or their parents. Going to conventions in costume should be another perk for the other fans there, not a money making attraction for you.
There are sometimes exceptions to this suggestion, like raising money to give to charity, as many of the events 501st Stormtrooper Legion participates in.
Make time for pictures. Please don't refuse photos. Even if you're enroute somewhere, take the time to pose for the cameras. You'll give someone a memory they can cherish for years to come. Don't scare the children. Small children may or may not have seen Star Wars. Those who haven't will not recognize you or your costume. If you wear a mask and a child is starting to shy away or cry, remove your mask to show them there is really a person underneath.
On the same note, don't intentionally scare children. Kids can be a lot of fun at conventions if you let them.
Be Prepared... Generally speaking, most people are very nice and pleasant to deal with. There are also people you'd rather avoid if you can help it. Small children (and their parents) sometimes see costumers as targets and they will sometimes try to have fun at your expense, especially if they've been drinking.
Take things in stride, but don't be a pushover. Avoiding a confrontation is the best way to handle one. If you have a designated "floater" (a person who isn't in costume that helps your group), have them look around for potential problems.
Do you work for Lucas? Never say you work for or are affiliated with LucasFilm. Honesty is always the best policy.

Thanks everyone for once again restoring peace to the galaxy. The Admins and mods thank you.
And thanks for posting those tips from 'Obi-Wan's Jedi-Academy' triplesaber, its very helpful especially for new recruits.
I'm pleased to report that no untoward incident happened during MySciFiFan's tour of duty over the EP3 weekend, except for a small girl who cried upon seing our Darth Maul at MPH. She was later convinced that Maul is 'not as evil as he looks' and stopped crying....he he he ;D
We managed to secure the assistant of escourt personnel to help us while we move around the complex, and was fortunate to have not run into any of those 'helmet knockers'...
I must once again say that every member of the MySciFiFan Costume Contingent behaved very professionally throughout our appearance, even those who were in costume for a public event for the very first time. Well done guys! Hope there'll be lots more events to utilise our costume in the future!

Thanks everyone for once again restoring peace to the galaxy.
hahaha... I'm glad too! ;D haha....makes one feel really wishing that the blaster etc. were real...or tempted to at least use it to knock them back! but that wouldn't be befitting the image/professionalism that we are supposed to protray right...hope I'm not giving any bad ideas....the costumers should never do anything no matter how irritating/provoking ppl can be...not easy to be trooping eh...but that's why it's maybe better if there were more costumers/troopers joining the group....at least in terms of numbers will be a little more discouraging for the "helmet knockers... Yep! well done! yes yes! keep it going and hope to see more costume members(incl.hopefully myself in near future)! Happy trooping

Hey Ninjaguar, I see you haven't yet introduce yourself over at our INTRODUCTIONS thread, although you joined the forum on April 18th, and have appeared alongside us as a member of the MySciFiFan Costumed Contingent...
Do tell us a bit more about yourself, and share with us on how you made your Biker Scout costume out of PVC pipes. I'm also interested to see the CONDITION of that iron you used to flatten those pipes...he he he ;D

I'm also interested to see the CONDITION of that iron you used to flatten those pipes...he he he ;D
Heh,the iron is okay, minor colour smudges.Wasn't really damaged.Making the armour was a nice experiment. At first i tried using mounting boards, with strips of aluminium riveted to them.Even the helmet was done paper mache style..Didn't work..Finally my friend and I decided on using pvc pipes.U know, those white plastic pipes. We opened them up using blades and metal saw,and iron them out flat.As for the elbow, wrist and shoulder pads, they were mainly smaller pvc pipes cut in half . The belt buckle was also a flattened pvc pipe, cut into sheets. The black buckles inbetween the belt and thigh boxes were bought from a button shop. The helmet was a big pvc pipe,8inch in diameter if I'm not mistaken. My friend modified and trimmed it alot so as to make the pipe fit nicely to my big head Mounting boards were used to make that part which..er..gives me shade..u know that..roof like part...
