For the benefit of our MySciFiFan DARTH VADER Costumers - VaderArjay , Kalkamel and Darth Raider :-Xwhom I know are potential members for the growing 501st MALAYSIA / BRUNEI Outpost, please take some time to go through these requirements that have been posted by Mark Fordham, Legion Commanding Officer of the 501st Legion :
ESB / ROTJ Vader:
Darth Vader in suit costume statement:
The appearance of Darth Vader will be consistent with the images seen in the Star Wars movies. The colors, placement, dimensions, and arrangement of the parts of the costume will be consistent with these images from the movies.
Common to ESB/ROTJ costume:
Outer Cape: Black full length draped over shoulders to the floor. Made of high quality wool or wool like material. It should be fully lined with a satin type material. There is a black collar of approximately 2" in width made to look like natural textureless leather. Optionally, the cape can have a 2" hem of satin or leather material appearing on the outside bottom edge of the cape.
Inner Robe: Full length black sleeveless robe with open front to expose chest box. Will be worn under chest armor and belt but over cod piece. Made of quality wool or wool like material and not translucent(see through). Length may be a couple of inches from ground but not above the bottom of shin armor. Recommended are three sewn-in pleats where it gathers behind the belt boxes that extend several inches above and below the boxes.
Chest Armor: To be of the correct two tone paint scheme of silver/gunmetal and raised areas of black except very center ridge which is also silver/gunmetal. Shoulder bells should be solid black. All should have a solid, sturdy appearance with glossy finish. Optionally, a center cape hook can be used.
Helmet Dome: Slightly shorter dome than ANH version. The dome ridge has a slightly "softer" edge to it than the ANH version. There is no "widow’s peak" in the dome brow as in the ANH version. Finish is high-gloss black.
Mask: Painted with correct two-tone scheme of black and silver/gunmetal with glossy finish. Lower triangle vent is much larger than ANH version. Large diamond vent mesh is backed by smaller/tighter screen type mesh. Both mesh parts are to be black, optionally the large mesh can be painted gunmetal grey to match the mask. Lenses must be quality properly shaped and dark grey color with or without a bronze hue is acceptable.
Gloves: Gauntlet style gloves that come to about mid-forearm and have pleats running lengthwise down gauntlet at about 1" apart. Should be black natural looking textureless leather.
Boots: Black laceless textureless boots with a rounded toe area. *Standard Imperial Officer Boot*
Body Suit: Black natural looking textureless leather appearance with vertical (with hands at sides) pleats of 1" spacing. Must be consistent on all visible parts of the body.
Shin Armor: Rigid material gloss black in color. Extends from ankle to over knee cap. Must be shaped and contain contours of those seen in the movies(all episodes).
Belt: Smooth black leather belt about 2 inches in width. Buckle is a black rectangular plate on which to mount the 'D' shaped bare metallic cover. The cover should include 5 "slots" of decreasing length through which the black backing plate is visible and have a raised circle area to match the scale, dimensions and placement as seen in the movies. Optionally a silver/bare metal button or stud can be located to the left of the buckle on the centerline of the belt slightly closer to the buckle than the belt box.
Belt Boxes: Boxes are of rectangular shape slightly larger than the rectangle of the belt buckle. To the outside of the body are 6 bare metal knobs placed evenly spaced in two vertical rows of 3 each. To the center of the body are two green lights and a filter device below the green lights. Between the green lights and the knobs is a red light. All lights are constantly lit. For accuracy, the green rectangular lights should not be faceted and have a smooth green opaque glow. The red light may appear in a metal mounting device slightly larger than the light itself. The red light is smaller than the red light seen on the ANH belt boxes. Depending on the scene to be emulated, a rounded tube shape with reinforcement threads can be used for the filter device. Also, a flat silver or white mesh material can be used in this area. The boxes should be consistent with scene references in color, dimensions, and location of the devices on the box. Boxes should be placed centered vertically on the belt about 1-2 inches on each side of the buckle plate to maintain proper aspect to the movie placement.
ESB Specific:
Light Saber: Based on the MPP Microflash or the Heiland Synchronar 3-Cell flash handle.
Mask: Tusks should be of metal appearance and rounded tips.
Chest Box: The box itself is about the same size and shape as in ANH. The lower rocker switches are grey with the left most switch (from wearers perspective) is red. The smaller rectangular buttons are blue and red, top to bottom. The side bars or rods are bare metal appearance with a black 'n' shaped topper and a gold finned device on the bottom end of the metal rod. Metallic slide switches are seen between each of the three bottom buttons and on top of each of the top two buttons. Must maintain aspect, dimensions, and locations consistent with movie reference.
ROTJ Specific:
Light Saber: Based on the Graflex 3-Cell flash handle.
Mask: Tusks should be of metal appearance and pointed tips. Optional for added accuracy; The lower vent appears slightly larger than ESB with softer corner angles, the horizontal ridge between the tusks is a bit thicker than the ESB, and the eye "sockets" appear slightly larger than on the ESB mask.
Chest Box: Missing the silver "switches" above the blue button and between the center lower rocker switches when compared to the ESB chest box.
