this is the first time I joined a forum for scifi and fantasy...
i have no read any of the posts here yet... so i have no idea how the crowd will be like... lemme introduce myself
i started reading scifi after being impressed by the intrigues of Dune by Frank Herbert (long before the movie), and since then have read books by Philip jose farmer, Julian MAy, isaac asimov, Gordon R dickson during my student days... and not forgetting R E Howard.. I also love novels by Alexander Kent (even though not really SF?fantasy material)..
recently i restarted reading novels... and among my favourite authors are Greg Bear, Orson Scott card, R E Feist, Robin Hobb, Robert Jordan, Jim Butcher , Dan Simmons...
Currently I'm checking out books by Juliet McKenna, Patrick Routhfuss, Stan Nichols and Ian Irvine...
Basically I listing the authors whose books are in my room...
Never get around to read Tolkien or Rob Heinlein... Trying to find a suitable time...
My favourite PC games are FAllout, Starcraft and Warhammer 40000...
I hate Dune the movie version, prefers the later TV adaptations by Scifi Channel.. though my favourite movie is Blade Runner...
I think that should be enough introduction... maybe u may notice me in Kinokuniya and Borders someday...

Hey there.
Great to see another Dune fan here.
As for the adaptations, I've seen both and I think the mini-series is a much more faithful adaptation of the novel. However, the David Lynch movie to me is the defining look of Dune on the screen with a unique flavour and vision. (The next level up from this should be a 40K movie.)
I'm sad that the theatrical version was a product that was mired in studio backbiting, and ended up with David Lynch losing creative control over that movie.

Thanks for the welcome.
I have read all the Frank Herbert authored Dune books, but still considering whether to read the other Dune books by his son Brian.... after all i still got a lot of other scifi/fantasy books to clear...
I read somewhere that someone is planning to make another Dune movie.... i hope that it will capture both the vision and complexity of the novel... After success of LOTR, I may not be surprised... studios may be friendlier to epic stories..
40K movie... can dream... My sons actually love the novels after being introduced to the PC game... one of my strategy to induce them into scifi and fantasy...
thanks again for the welcome.
