Then maybe George Lucas can have a go at it...
You promised to have a look-see at these troll laser swords. Yes, yes, of course. Well, first of all, they're not troll-make. They must have been stolen.
They were made for the Star Wars. This sword, Thorin, the runes name:
Orcrist, the Sith Cleaver!
I can hear Tolkien rolling over in his grave... ;D

Well perhaps Pete Jackson wants to take a LOOOOONG hiatus and don't want to have anything to do with Tolkien's work for a while. Perhaps following Unca George's footsteps, who took a 14 Year Hiatus between RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983 and returned to the Director's chair in 1997 to direct SW Ep I : THE PHANTOM MENACE.

It is not so much a long hiatus. It is a well know fact that he did expect to direct the Hobbit as well as the other prequel... so it is a blow to him as well as many fans. The problem arise when his company Wingnut Films sued New Line Cinema for a sum that may be close to USD100 million. New Line is now playing hardball and basically say, fine... be that way. We just won't let you do the Hobbit, so there. I hope it is a bluff by NLC to pressurise PJ to drop the suit but I am not holding my breath. *grumbles and takes up an axe to sharpen it on some movie execs head* Rumours has it Spidey's Sam Raimi might be directing but he's not confirming as yet. Hmph... at least a bit of bright spark in all the gloom.

Getting anyone else other than Jackson would be a big mistake, similar in proportions to getting some doped-up wannabe director like Paul W. Anderson to direct Aliens v. Predator instead of Ridley Scott or James Cameron. Or getting Brett Ratner to do X-Men 3 instead of Bryan Singer. In simple words: it will be a turkey!

So it is not a hiatus on Peter Jackson's part as I've originally perceived. Indeed a RECIPE for DISASTER if Peter Jackson the director that is world famous in his association with J.R.R. Tolkein's LOTR is dropped from directing "The Hobbit" IF NLC think they can cash onto LOTR's commercial success by having somebody else directing "The Hobbit" then they had better make provision for Huge Box Office losses in their accounting books! ;D

The original lawsuit by Wingnut was for unpaid royalties from New Line, the dirty grubbing talent-less studios wanted to keep the profits for themselves, apparently. Perhaps a swift stab of Anduril up the appropriate rectums will loosen their coin-purses. As well as their bowels. Mess with my Middle Earth at your peril, orcen scum...

It'll be interesting to see how they adapt the Hobbit. Some of the characters are portrayed slightly differently than they were in LOTR. For example singing elves and talking trolls
