No idea yet, but this is going to be a direct sequel to Superman the Movie and Superman II. The so-so Superman III and laughable Quest for Peace (Superman has a Great Wall of China fixovision?) is thrown out the window.

Return from Smallville, after much needed rest from constant crime fighting? ;D

"In "Superman Returns", the Man of Steel comes back to Earth after a several year absence. Why he go away in the first place for few years? Leaving Earth undefended and crime to run rampant... Beats me, fish. I'm trying to keep myself spoiler-free for this eagerly anticipated movie ;D Methinks it'll follow on from Superman II, like what Hisham stated; totally ignoring Supes III & IV. Maybe some plotlines will be detailed in the final season of Smallville, though I can't quite imagine how (but if they were to, I'm sure they'd pull it off convincingly) |

I wouldn't say that Earth is undefended. Remember that even in THAT universe Earth outside of Metropolis is also being defended (if Supes is not around) by Wonder Woman, a few Green Lanterns, Hawkman & Hawkgirl, Aquaman, Flash, Batman, Nightwing, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, Fire, Ice, Star-Spangled Kid, STRIPES, The Ray, Hawk, Dove, Vixen, Metamorpho, Phantom Stranger, Question, Creeper, The Demon, Crimson Fox, Animal Man, Zatanna, Green Arrow, Huntress, Black Canary, Red Tornado, Elastic Man, Hourman, Gypsy, The Teen Titans, Suicide Squad, Doom Patrol, Metal Men, *pant*pant*.... I need water...Hmms.. though that's definitely true in the comic-book DCU I can't quite recall if it's been mentioned (in any of the Superman movies) of the existence of additional heroes in the movie-based DCU.. Maybe for storyline intents & purposes, Superman is the only hero in the DC-Movie-Universe? That would make his disappearance & subsequent return all the more.. *impactful*..  Trivia:- The Joel Schumacher-helmed "Batman Forever" had a throwaway line "The circus must've been halfway to Metropolis by now".. least implying the movie-based Gotham City & Metropolis coexisted in the same shared universe.. but then again, that was the garishly, funky-colourful Gotham, not the depressing, dark Gotham that Chris Nolan reimagined for us viewers, so who knows?? ;D |
