Hi guys, Just went to see this movie today, I think it's a children's story which is based on Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy(I've never read before). From the producer of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, this is a fantasy adventure, the story focus on Lyra , a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who’s been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well. Lyra's world is in a parallel universe very much like ours. The difference is that in her world, a persons soul lives on the outside of their body in the form of a daemon- a talking animal spirit that stays with them through their life. The movie has got big actors like Nicole kidman and Daniel craig and christopher lee(who was Count Dooku in star wars). Personally I find the story quite interesting and special effects are quite good. There are plenty of animals, talking bears fight wars, Gyptians and witches. Their world is cla ssic but with advance technology(a bit like Naboo in star wars) which can be seen in the design of their flying machine, carriage and the bee tracker & etc. I think the whole cinema audience didn't expect the show to end when Lyra and her pal decides to sleep and the screen turns black for a few minutes before the wordings appears, I think there might be future chapters.

Heehee....I think the more appropriate word should be "from the Studio that brought us LOTR". Ya, I know Mark Ordesky who is one of the Exercutive Producer for LOTR and has the same role for The Golden Compass but it like LOTR and The Matrix; the only non-cast member connection they have with each other is Barrie Osbourne ( Producer). I think the whole cinema audience didn't expect the show to end when Lyra and her pal decides to sleep and the screen turns black for a few minutes before the wordings appears, I think there might be future chapters. Ya, this had been said to be the letdown of the movie for casual movie-goers as they probably didn't know that The Golden Compass ( Original Book Title: Northern Lights) is part of the His Dark Materials trilogy so there're 2 more movies to go. And I heard that The Golden Compass is just a testing point for NLC and they will only produce the next movie ( original title: The Subtle Knife) IF the 1st movie do well enough. Anyhow, it might come true and hope this time they decide also at the beginning whether they are going to do the 3rd movie or not. As for the movie, okay lah IMHO tho' I think I was starting to loose interest by the time I finish my 2nd viewing. Just me I guess....

For those who read the book & were disappointed bout the ending here some inside info & trivia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILER<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< SPOILER: Pivotal scenes taken from the final chapters of the book depicting the fate of Lord Asriel, including a love scene with Mrs. Coulter, his murdering young Roger to escape to a parallel world and Lyra's decision to follow him, were filmed and deleted shortly before the film's release. New Line Cinema has said it hopes to re-insert the scenes in a sequel.
