reminds me of the cars in I, Robot. Yeah, this could be the beginning of cars like those in I, Robot. And then robot helpers, and then they become self-aware, and they take over the world...
Someone better find and warn Sara Connor!

but you have to realize that I, Robot happened in like 2035. Because the book was written many many years ago...
However, I don't think the age of sentient AI beings is THAT far away.
If technology continue to advance at the current rate(and many believe the rate of advancement will accellerate exponantially due to the 'compounded' effect), the age of sentient AI will be upon us before the end of this century, or even sooner.
Lets use electric vehicles as an example. I just read in today's newspaper that Keio University in Japan has not only successfully built a fully functional electric car, but have broken the speed record for the non-competition category electric vehicle, with a top speed of 370Km/hr. This vehicle, or a new model meant for the road, is due to be marketed in limited quantities in 4 to 5 years' time.
Read about it HERE
The point I want to make is, Keio Universiti only started developing the electric vehicle 25 years ago in 1980. Using that as a guide, we may see sentient AI technology in 30 to 50 years' time. I may be gone by then, but most of you who are now in your teens/20s or even early 30s may still be around to witness it. Your grandchildren will most probably be delivered by androids instead of human midwifes, and have android nannys...
Our technology is moving at break-neck speed. Things that are considered Science Fiction todya is not that far away from being a reality...
