Written by JMS (of Babylon 5 fame), I found the Rising Star series really interesting and refreshing on the superhero comic front. The 4400 mini-series seems to have adapted elements of Rising Stars.
Anyone know whether the Rising Star comics have actually concluded. I think I got the first 2 TPBs a long time ago and have yet to sight the first volume. Has the comics reached an end yet?

Yup. It sure took a long time but the series has finally ended with a big bang. Or more like another Pederson Flash. I love the series. I personally think that the whole concept and its' writing is simply brilliant and refreshing. Right now they are releasing a few limited series on the backstory of some of the characters in the Rising Stars story. Currently out now is the one about Lionel Zerb; the guy who can speak with the dead.

Agree that the story is gripping, but was totally let down by the art. The initial artist Keu Cha really failed miserably, imho, in bringing JMS's script to life That kinda gave the maxi-series a taint from which it struggled to recover. Such potential Only towards the end, when Brent Anderson (of Astro City fame) took over the artist chores, did the series manage to reach its shining (pardon the pun) potential. Plus, the erratic shipping schedule didn't help. Apparently JMS had some dispute with Top Cow, the publisher of the series, and he held back the scripts for the final story arc till it was resolved.
