So... what do you think? Which is the best? Macross/Robotech or Mobile Suit Gundam?

if we were to say in terms of understanding, or "generation" wise, Robotech is very clear cut. 1 generation spawns the "offspring" of the other... Gundam has gone so complicated that at times i wonder whether it's more of a marketing gimmick or... But i somehow prefer the fight scenes in Robotech... they seem more intense. or is it just me?

The first time I watched Robotech was during the 80s when TV 3 was airing all the episodes early morning on Saturdays. I watched every single one of them and didn't miss a thing (and thank god no episodes were missing too... unlike today).
But you are right about Robotech being clear cut and all... its straight to a point.
Mobile Suit Gundam on the other hand had different versions... and most of them varies a lot. From the original 0079 version to the latest Seed Destiny, when it comes to fans is more than Robotech.
My first Gundam watch was Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. I have to admit this is one great anime series I felt its worth watching again and again. Maybe its the hype that got me into it... but it isn't once I started watching. It has what any other anime has... only its so much different compare to other Gundam series.
Maybe I should go check out the other series... especially 0079 that started it all. True it is complicated... but I believe its worth it just to watch different types of Gundams that is available.

hehe.. mayb we should have a Gundam Festival of something... although i must admit that i'm actually drawn to their interesting "body suits" tho... was quite tempted to buy one of those kits and assemble 1 too!!! unfortunately for Gundam, Robotech won... (just recently assemble a VF-1J. Got the Battloid version, sitting on cupboard... haven't had the time tho) The only Gundam i ever watch was Gundam - Endless Waltz... a movie i believe

I'd rather dig Robotech/Macross too. Maybe because it was American-dubbed earlier to make sense.
Gundam always looked interesting to me but simply dunno where to start. Short of time nowadays as well so can't spend so many hours catching up on the last 20 years!

Actually... you can watch any Gundam series without missing anything else. Each although most of the series are connected (some are alternate worlds of Gundam), you won't miss anything in it.
Maybe a screening of Gundam might work... get the understanding much better...

Yes you should check out that movie, you would also get to see the updated version of the valkyries and new zentradi mecha and power armour. The animation and fight scenes is just remarkable and brilliant. However bear in mind, according to Shoji Kawamori, this is a retelling of the SDF Macross tv series in a movie version. You should also note that although the story in Macross in more straightforward (except for Macross 7), I would say that the characther development and politics intrigue is more complicated and interesting. Just look at Zeta Gundam, one party may an ally to be an enemy next.

ah... another macross/robotech fan...
am guessing you're refering to Macross Zero, which was suppose to be the prequel (sort of) to the Macross series...
