Doc, you're very lucky in that your spouse also share your interest in Star Trek. Imagine if she has no interests whatsoever in your hobby, and think anything you buy is just junk amd even the smallest amount spent on it is a total waste of money. How would you handle it then? Just the opposite ... my spouse is NOT a Star Trek fan, she's not even a sci-fi fan at all. In fact my spouse is a traditional Chinese opera actress! Serious, her interest and mine are very much different. However that doesn't stop us from pursuing our own interests and hobbies. When I have Star Trek functions, she is always my right-hand person. When she is having her opera performance, I'd support her on back stage as helper. Such mutual respect of each other is the key to the success of marriage. Unfortunately, there are some fans whoes spouses do not understand each other, and the lack of understanding cause them to either break-off or to sacrifice one's interest. I know one Trekkie whose wife is so against his ST interest that he give away all his ST collectibles (which he collected since his univ in UK) just to save his marriage.

USD282(RM1015) + RM345 Customs Tax = RM1360
And that's just for your belt plus pouches? Yes obiwan's belt with 4 screen accurate pouches. I am a nutter isn't it. ;D I know its very expensive, when I bought the MR lightsaber I never thought I would buy anything more expensive than that. Well I think this is not advisable for anyone to do the same unless you have you have sufficient income and its within your budget sometimes I go too far to get what I want. But then again I think that life is short, I work so hard, once in a while I am willing to do something crazy just to please myself, for me its worth while. Well it's within my budget. Although my husband may not think so.

... But what I would like to say is that in the first place it is your OWN Hard Earned Money and the right its yours to spend it as you see fit, period. IMO your hubby has NO right to tell you that you're wasting your money since he does NOT pay your salary... Sorry, but I beg to disagree ... the income of a family is the responsibility of the couple, not just an individual anymore. This is how we keep our marriage intact by way of check and balance ... my 2 cents. I agree that spending wastefully is not right. If you have children you need to plan for their education and other family concerns, family should have first priority. Also that one should not think of oneself only but to think in the interest of both parties & the family. Communication is important to keep the marriage intact. For me I don't have any children, most of the household expenditure are taken care of by my husband. Although I contribute some its only a minority of it. ;D I think my husband has traditional thinking, he would recommend me to safe sufficient money for retirement & future unforeseen circumstances rather than buying toys & collectibles. Depending on individual circumstances, I think that if one has sufficient savings for future needs and funds to cover all other monthly expenses, its okay to spend the extra amout on hobby. Although some kiasu people would recommend to even keep the extra money in the bank. ;D Or unless you are extremely rich then go ahead buy all you want no need to think.

Its good to hear that you support each other although you don't share the same interest. My husband is not a sci-fi fan, but he doesn't mind to join me in a lightsaber duel sometimes. and he is not against me in my hobby. But he doesn't agree that I spend too much on it. I know one Trekkie whose wife is so against his ST interest that he give away all his ST collectibles (which he collected since his univ in UK) just to save his marriage. That's too bad, the wife is too selfish.

I'm CONFIDENT that you will be able to complete your first Jedi Knight costume and I look forward to TROOP with in MySciFiFan's Halloween 2006 which is now being promoted at the Halloween 2006 Event. See you there soon, Jedi jaden.
Depends on whether I could finish the robe at least, I haven't even started. I got to ask my husband first. Where is the venue?

Depends on whether I could finish the robe at least, I haven't even started. Well if you get started now, then you stand a good chance of finishing it BEFORE the END of October 2006. I got to ask my husband first. Where is the venue? I hope that I did not interpret your reply incorrectly. You mean you've got to get your husband's Green Light to allow you to attend the Halloween 2006 Event OR ask him to accompany you for this event?
The (tentative) VENUE per fishyahoo's e-mail dated 6 September 2006 :
Halloween isn't far off now. Tentatively we'll be holding an event party for it on SATURDAY, 4 NOVEMBER at CINELEISURE, MUTIARA DAMANSARA.
Our last big Halloween Party was in 2004: myscififan.startrek.com.my/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=14&Itemid=28
Welcome suggestions for event activities as well as volunteers to help get it organised.
Hope this info helps you in your planning for this BIG November 2006 Event. ;D

That's nothing wrong what ... my wife and I also seek each other's consent first before attending any of our respective events. If my schedule doesn't crash with her, I will accompany her. If our programmes both happen on the same time, then I will send her there, and fetch her after the event.

That reminds me Dr. EMH, is there ANY chance that "Captain Solo" will be setting the co-ordinates of his Millennium Falcon due North to participate in MySciFiFan's HALLOWEEN 2006 Event?

Thanks for the invitation, my lord ... it's on 4th NOVEMBER 2006 right?
I'd love to beam over to the northern quadrant, it has been quite awhile since we all last met. But I already have a few plans coming out for the coming months (eg: very tempted to attend the Christie's Star Trek Auction in New York in Oct, and a possible house-warming of my new starbase in Nov).
Nevertheless, I'd be taking some leave from 21 to 29 Oct, to take advantage of the 2 public holidays fall within. I have no plan yet .... any events during this period? Thx.

Well if you get started now, then you stand a good chance of finishing it BEFORE the END of October 2006. I have just managed to get the fabric this week for the shirt/inner robe. will try to make it as soon as possible, but am not sure how long the tailor will take to finish. Hopefully can finish before November. I hope that I did not interpret your reply incorrectly. You mean you've got to get your husband's Green Light to allow you to attend the Halloween 2006 Event OR ask him to accompany you for this event? ;D Well , as you know he is not a scifi fan, If I go anywhere that I usually go, there is no need to ask, but this is exceptional, I have casually mentioned to him and ask if he wants to go, and he said I am crazy and wonder where I get the information from, I told him from the local sci fi community and its a yearly event, although he didn't say anything else, I said then I go myself?, he also didn't say anything. So I guest I might be able to go lah The other concern is that since nowadays I don't usually go out till late, I wonder how late is late.
