I have just managed to get the fabric this week for the shirt/inner robe. will try to make it as soon as possible, but am not sure how long the tailor will take to finish. Hopefully can finish before November. The secret in getting it done on time is to set a deadline for the tailor, then followup, follow up, and follow up. Bug them night and day, and visit them as often as you can to make sure they're working on your costume, instead of someone else's.I have casually mentioned to him and ask if he wants to go, and he said I am crazy and wonder where I get the information from, I told him from the local sci fi community and its a yearly event It must be quite a culture shock for your hubby to find out there's actually a local sci-fi/fantasy community, and we actually dress up and appear in a public venue. I bet he think we're a bunch of lunatics, and now we've 'brain washed' you to be one of us. ;D

Hi all,
I went to check out the outpost movie bazaar, the place is still quite new. They've got loads of toys and collectibles.
I am really nervous :Pthinking about costplay in Nov, as I have never done anything like this before, but I would like to try if my Jedi inner robe is ready and I am able to go.

Start like how all of us did, in a group. That way you won't feel like everyone's staring at you, and can hide behind someone when you feel really nervous.

Ya, that is how I started out too, thanks to Shawn/Chakster and his friends. They inspired me to not be shy to walk in public in my costumes when it's the correct time (aka movie release) that I help to organize a SW Costume Parade cum AOTC Movie Screening in 2002 when AOTC came out and after that, I guess Singapore gotten a bit more used to seeing us walking in public in our SW, Matrix Trilogy, Harry Potter, LOTR, X-Men, Anime etc costumes; especially if it's the week the movie came out.

Thanks Plo, Dr.Emh, Tylerdurden & haldir, I agree , groups can make one feels more confident. Otherwise mask is a good idea, but I don't have any mask, I actually got panic and am making a Lekku instead, hand sewned by me(to cut cost and reduce tailor frustration ;D) not finished yet, not sure whether it will complete in 1 piece. Worst come to worst if all things fail, I might wear a dark sunglasses and hopefully the Jedi shirt could complete on time so I can go. I am going to chase the tailor, hopefully it'll be completed by this weekend. I wonder do you guys bring the costume there and change, if so is there any place to leave the baggage.

Thanks Plo, Dr.Emh, Tylerdurden & haldir, I agree , groups can make one feels more confident. Jaden you can be REST ASSURED that there will at least by a MySciFiFan COSTUMED Group on trooping duty during the Halloween 2006 Event come 4 November 2006. As such we will be there to make sure you WONT be ALONE. Either a mask or pull the Hood of the Jedi Robe to cover your face ala Darth Sidious... May I suggest this effective method? An IGNITED Lightsaber with its humming sound in front of the tailor does wonders in speeding up their work! ;DYes we do, except for me. I rode my Bantha to Cineleisure in my FULL Tusken Raider gear!

Thanks sith overlord, Either a mask or pull the Hood of the Jedi Robe to cover your face ala Darth Sidious... I don't have any hood yet and most probably won't have until after the event. haven't buy any material or measurement yet. I am currently making the jedi outer shirt, most probably will simply buy a turtle neck for inner shirt. May I suggest this effective method? An IGNITED Lightsaber with its humming sound in front of the tailor does wonders in speeding up their work! ;D Very tempting indeed, but doing so could lead me to the dark side. I will use mind trick instead. I wonder do you guys bring the costume there and change, if so is there any place to leave the baggage. Yes we do, except for me. I rode my Bantha to Cineleisure in my FULL Tusken Raider gear! Huh...Wah you are so daring, people would be starring at you at traffic stop, they would think: 'oh my goodness I though I just saw a tusken rider lunatic driving next to my car or is it my eye doing tricks on me'. but anyway its okay because they won't know who you are. but.... perhaps your neighbor would see you ;D He he
